I'm going to be in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for a few days for work in December. Where should I stay and what are some things to do/see etc. while I'm there?

I had business in Scottsdale not too long ago. We stayed at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort which is a very nice place. LINK /

The down side to the place is that it is lacking in restaurants for such a big resort. There is a sports bar and I think there was a café which served breakfast and that was it which was disappointing for the times we had limited time to eat between meetings.

We ate at Mastro's Ocean Club one night which was okay. It's a pretty expensive steak and seafood restaurant. Very nice, but the food was just above average to me as far as what we all ordered.

Check the travel board as I think there was a thread on that area a few months or so ago.

You will see a lot of cactus.

Not sure why you're butthurt it got moved over here. One quick google search provided these threads (and more), plus we'll have our AZ residents pop in here shortly.

Drive up to Sonoma...not too far and great area to hike, shop, and explore even with the car.

Went last year for New Years. Stayed at Royal Palms resort and it was top notch. One of my favorite places to eat was Cafe Monarch. The botanical garden is an absolute must see during the Las Noches de las Luminaries which is all Dec I believe. Like 8,000 luminaries, with bands and drink stops along the walk. Would love to go back again this year just to see that.

Check out Coach House Tavern. Oldest bar in Old Town and is decorated with like a million Christmas lights this time of year. Place is very packed this time of year but a really fun bar to grab drinks at. It is like Clark Griswold owned and decorated a bar.
