Check out Grassroots Kitchen and Tap House

Also, old Town Tortilla Factory is always a fun time. HUGE patio and good southwestern food.

Eons ago, I took my first grown up business trip to a conference in Scottsdale & stayed at the Valley Ho, just a block or so from the Old Town Tortilla Factory....so that name brought back some memories, LOL. I can't say that I remember the food, but I can recall the patio misters and the margaritas.

Not in Scottsdale, but in downtown Phoenix is Pizzeria Bianco, certainly one of the best-regarded pizzerias in the country.

Lol at the down vote. I guess someone hates pizza.

Valley Ho 10 years ago was the shite, great pool scene before pools were trendy. The fine dining restaurant they had, Trader Vic's I believe, was very good.

For OP, not really an upscale place but great food and location (next to Fashion Square):

Roaring Fork, LINK, worth going just for the Green Chile Mac & Cheese.

Roaring Fork is really good and they have a great happy hour special. Their food portions are pretty generous as well.

You can get a massive burger and fries off their happy hour menu for only $10

ETA: One of the guys in senior leadership at my husband's work visits their Scottsdale office once a month(the guy lives in Boston). He will go with my husband and others to happy hour and they frequently go to Roaring Fork.

Can't go wrong here. One of the best steaks I've ever had.

No I apparently have a serial downvoter.
My Valley Ho experience was more like 20+ years ago...the place was decent, but a bit down at the heels, long before mid-century modern had become chic again. I was traveling with a coworker whose parents had been married/honeymooned in Scottsdale 30 years before, and she persuaded the hotel shuttle driver to take us to the resort where her parents were married. It (can't remember the name) had devolved into total kitsch, with a vaguely tropical theme, with a parrot on a stand in the lobby. Total weirdness, with ancient people hanging out, eager to chat with anyone who paid them a scrap of attention.

I suspected that might be the case, clicked on your post history, and you have a downvote on every single post. You must be a hot chick.

I stayed at Valley Ho in summers of 2006 and 2007, not longer after they did their renovations. Awesome rooms with patios overlooking the pool. Even in July it was a great few days of relaxing and drinking.

I'm pretty sure I also went to a rooftop party in the condo tower to watch fireworks on July 4th 2008, nice views of the entire valley.

A very unique place that has some good memories for me. And a lot of history that I forgot about, it was one of the original Scottsdale resorts back in the day. And the restoration/remodel kept the same theme. It has a "Mad Men" vibe to it, but authentic not cheesy.

OP, if you are staying someplace like Phoenician or Kierland then stay put. If you are staying in a Holiday Inn Express or some chain deal you should look at staying at the Ho. Rooms look to be around $200/nt right now.

Antiquetiger, if you happen to read this thread, based on your trip to W TX/NM I think you would like this place.

How is Mastro's Ocean Club?

Are any of the restaurants in the Plaza Resort good?

I've only had drinks at Ocean Club but have been to Mastro's City Hall and the food was amazing.

Get the butter cake for dessert. Best dessert I've ever had.

And I don't know any of the restaurants in plaza resort. Sorry.

Go up to Kierland and The Quarter. Both upscale shopping areas across the street from each other on Scottsdale Rd. Postino's is a local chain here (there is one in Kierland and one right by Scottsdale Fashion Square) that is a popular place for happy hour. Many of the restaurants in the Quarter are decent as well.

There is also a new location of The Mission at Kierland. Haven't been but heard it was good.

Thanks. Looks like the menus at the two restaurants are nearly identical.
