In the next year or so I'll be turning 50 and my wife said she wants to go on a vacation wherever I'd like to go.

At first it sounded cool, but I'm having a hard time coming up with anything other than maybe a badass place to hang out and possibly do some fishing.

Europe is out. Went last year and going this year. Caribbean is a no because I'm going there next month. Been to Alaska.

Anybody have any ideas? We're trying to start planning early because there will probably be a few friends and family that might go as well.

PNW.... have you been to the Oregon coast or the Olympia National Park area? While not my thing for vacation, there is fishing up in that area

Sun Valley, ID. Great fishing, white water rafting, etc. I have only been during the summer. The drive up to Stanley, for rafting, is spectacular.

Thanks all. I go to Colorado quite often so that's out.

I'm going to look into Sun Valley. I've been to Idaho many times but only up around CDA and Sandpoint. I'll also look into Sullivan's Island. Charleston is probably my wife's favorite city in the US.

Great Lakes area; Michigan and Wisconsin. There is a lot to do there and you can fish. A buddy did a charter on Lake Michigan, out if WI I think, for salmon last summer.

There’s Mackinac Island in MI, Door County in WI several National Seashores/Parks and scenic drives.
