I’ve been to the Natural History, Metropolitan, and Modern Art museums. All were cool. The MOMA is more for serious art enthusiasts, though, while the Natural History one is very cool if you like science, (the skeletons of various extinct species including dinosaurs and early human-like species, were nice as well as the minerals), and the Metropolitan had a lot of variety. I liked the various weapons and suits of armor but there was art, furniture, and all kinds of things.

As far as the subway - 6 years ago my elderly mother lost her wallet on it. It was mailed back with all the cash still inside. It’s a shame it’s getting less safe, per news reports. I guess just be aware of your surroundings.

The Broadway shows were worth the money to me. If you’re into music/dance/theater, it’s a truly unique experience. I went to a few of the biggest/most popular ones and they did not disappoint.

I agree Broadway is the big draw for me going to NYC. Yes all the other museums etc are wonderful, but if I'm trekking into the city, I'm for sure catching a show too!!!

Just read yesterday crime in the subway is up 70% but I didn't catch whether that's over last year or what.

Up 75% compared to last year when very few people were riding the subway so really not a relevant stat.

thanks that's what I was wondering. Actually people WERE riding the subway but the numbers were definitely down due to covid. However, as a lifelong NYC visitor, living close enough to frequent the city often, I can tell you that the past few years (under DiBlasio) the city has fallen a lot back towards the pre-Guiliani days when the city was very dangerous.

Look, there are certainly some sketchy people down there but I never felt unsafe on the subway. Plus, there are police officers patrolling the stations as well. The station next to our hotel (Lexington-53rd) wasn’t a very busy station but there were at least 3 officers down there at all times.

A headline from just moments ago.

Not a single person has said there is zero crime in the subways, just that you are statistically unlikely to be a victim.

Plenty of people are killed by drunk drivers every year, I still get on the roads and don’t feel unsafe.

Are there terrorist attacks on the highway? This dude in Brooklyn, dressed like an MTA worker and wearing a gas mask, opened fire during rush hour, firing dozens of bullets and injuring multiple people. Then he dropped smoke canisters and disappeared.

Warning: graphic images

Ever driven down I-10 in New Orleans?

32 people shot on interstates in New Orleans in just over 12 months

Nope. My only point in this thread was that the subway in NYC has become far less safe than it was just a year or two ago. The daily crime reports of subway attacks, including today's attack in Brooklyn, bear this out. How much has crime increased in NYC overall? 40%? 50%? 60%?

I just don’t think that horrible attack equates to “don’t use the subway”

I’d still highly encourage people to run the Boston marathon.

You should go post on the OT. Using this stupid logic means people should avoid grocery stores, church, hell even school.

This attack is evil and sad, but it doesn't mean we should shut down NYC.

Who said anything about shutting down NYC? Again, for the hard of comprehension, violent attacks on the subway are up by 40-60% from just a couple of years ago. You might consider alternate transportation. It's a shame how dangerous NYC has become in such a short amount of time.

I suspect that starting today, the subway will become a very safe mode of transportation in NYC. The security presence will be intense.

Why does something like this have to happen first? Subway crime is up 68% from last year, with over 600 violent crimes committed on the subway in 2022 compared to 300 and change last year. People have to be attacked, pushed off platforms, robbed, beaten, and now an entire morning crowd shot up before the city does anything? They've let crime run rampant in NYC.

Lol, those stats were pulled directly from a channel 4 NYC news report I just watched. Is it your assertion that NBC New York is making up the crime statistics they are reporting?

You can't compare last year when fewer people were riding the trains to this year when ridership increased greatly.

Tell that to NBC New York. Do you think the people who have been attacked on the subway give a shite that more people have been riding this year? And ridership is still down 50% from pre-pandemic numbers. That was another statistic that NBC New York reported today.
