Looking to take the family on a lake vacation in North Carolina. What lakes would y'all recommend for good swimming and kids activities. Thanks

Lake Glenville is nice but I think most of the houses are for large groups.

It might be tough to get to, but Hyco Lake near the Virginia line would be a great place to visit. It’s a power plant lake so the water is warm from April to September and rental prices tend to be cheaper there. Also not as much boat traffic as the larger lakes in the state so you can do plenty of water sport activities

Lake Norman is really nice. Plus you're really close to Charlotte, so you can check out the downtown scene there.

Stayed on Lake Santeetlah twice, it was perfect.

I have a friend with a house on Lake James. About 30 minutes east of Asheville in the foothills of the mountains. Super clear and clean.
There are some bars/restaurants on the lake, as well.

Why North Carolina? The lakes in the mountains are smaller but more beautiful and not as busy. Lake Lure comes to mind and is close to Chimney Rock. There are a few really nice lakes in South Carolina near the NC/SC border. Check out Lake Keowee and Lake Jocasse. The water’s almost a clear blue. They are just north of Clemson, SC.

Check out Lake Lure near Chimney Rock and Asheville. It has all you could want: golf, climbing, hiking, restaurants. The original Dirty Dancing was filmed there.
