I have friends coming in town next week and they've never been to NOLA, just wondering with everything going on is French Quarter area back open? They just want to do the tourist stuff and see the place, do some shopping and eat somewhere nice. I'm not much on NOLA just seeing if we can make a day for them while they're in town.

You can make a day. Many many things are still shut down especially in tourist areas like the FQ. You will need to wear masks inside places that are open and you should probably make reservations where you can.

It does, in some ways, make the FQ more pleasant, there are far less people, bums, trash, and crime. Places won't be open but the FQ kind of sucks anyway, so you can go walk around it and eat elsewhere.

Plenty of bars and restaurants open in the FQ. Make a reservation at a decent restaurant, but otherwise plenty to wander into.

What kind of stuff are they into?
I think a trip to City Park is worth it just to visit Café Du Monde that the location vs the French Quarter one. There is a very nice sculpture garden that is across the street and it’s free. The Museum of Art is right there as well.

Go drink/eat and sit outside in the evening at the Bayou Beer/Wine Garden, Tchopyard, or Wrong Iron.
Bachnel is a great place for drinks in the Bywater.
