Whoops! Hit enter on accident....anyway we were supposed to go to TCIs but that isn't going to happen now. We are scrambling trying to find another tropical vacation destination. We go at the end of October. We like to dive and don't want anything too touristy. We are considering Roatan, and I was wondering if any of ya'll have been there. There wasn't a review of it here. Also considering Curaco, Aruba, Caymans, or Grenada. We went to Ambergris Caye last year and loved it. We like to dive recreationally, I like to golf, and really we just want to sit on the beach and veg for a while. Thoughts?

Guy at my dive shop loves to go there diving, he is going for about the 6th time next year. Depending on my flight status I will have a dive review for Curacao in about two weeks.

Never been but next fly fishing trip I take will be S. Mexico, Belize, or Roatan. Really want to check Roatan out.

I've been to Roatan a few times. In Columbus right now for the Oklahoma game but will come back and give you information on Sunday. Fantastic spot if you're a diver and it's not a break the budget place to stay at.

Been to Roatan as a stop on a cruise ship. Tabyana Beach on West Bay was nice.

Check out Coco View as a place to stay. They have over-the-water rooms. The resort is nice and great food. Not real expensive and the unlimited diving on-site is a good dive. Saw several cool sea horses. Don't miss the shallow diving at the resort, lots of cool micros to check out.

My husband and I have been to Curacao, Roatan, and Grand Cayman. He dives; I don't. While he liked the diving in all three, he thought Roatan had the best diving, including the lowest pricing for the dives. From my perspective, however, I loved Grand Caymen the best because it seemed to be the most developed in terms of things to do. Roatan and Curacao were very "rustic" with not much to do outside of diving.

One of my all-time favorite places to dive. We like to dive with Marco at Bananarama. In addition to day dives, we did an amazing night dive with him and saw all kinds of bioluminescent creatures. Also there's a cool shark dive in Roatan, but I can't remember who that was with. It's a great spot with beautiful beaches and tons of marine life.

Roatan is like Ambergris Caye but cleaner and a tad more remote., Loved it.

Thanks for the input. We still haven't made a decision if we are going to bail on TCI yet.

If you go a lunch at Cal's Temporary Cantina is a must. Cal doesn't have a lot of personality but his food is unbelievable. Cash only.

I stayed at Anthony's Key about a year ago and dove all week. It is a nice resort and definitely has the remote feeling. Can't beat the price for the dive package and all your meals. Most of the time you can catch a buy one one stays free deal. My wife and I had a room, meals, and diving for $1,500 for 7 days.
Diving was pretty good. You can do a shark dive which was very cool and they have dolphins at the resort you can snorkel and dive with. If you have any questions just ask!

We were really excited about Roatan then learned the flight situation may not work out for us. So now we are back to square one. Still don't know if TCI will be functional. We are looking at Caymans, Aruba, Curaco currently...any advice on these?

St. Kitts & Nevis, Barbados. I'd look at those as well.

What's up with the Roatan flights? They've never been hard for us.

I don't think any of the US airlines fly to
Roatan during the week. On Sunday you might need to connect through San Pedro Sula (?). When I went ten years ago we flew TACA. And it was a Saturday only flight. I think they sold to someone else, but you can get there on Sunday, you will just need to connect through the mainland.

From Dulles I have to connect through San Salvador. The last time we went we had to overnight in San Salvador because they dropped some flights. Usually fly on Avianca Taca when we go down there.

Yea that's the issue we are having. We have to use Delta bc we were to use them to fly to turks and caicos but now that that may not happen they won't refund us, just change destinations. Kinda in a pickle.
