Houston Chronicle article
quote:

Glamping is a portmanteau of glamour and camping and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with "traditional" camping.

quote:

Guests can enjoy about 1,500 feet of private river access, trails for hiking and mountain biking, and the retreat provides a canoe for people to use, too. The tents themselves have the luxury feeling about them and start at $300 a night. Both are equipped with AC, indoor plumbing, a kitchenette and a cast iron wood burning stove. Due to the indoor plumbing, the tents share the same septic system, so they are about 150 feet apart.

My neighbor just bought property outside of Terlinqua to build a glamping ground.....I don't get the appeal but I guess they are popular.

I would stay there for sure, but that's definitely not camping.

That’s about what you get for accommodations on most African photo safaris. It goes up from there too.

Seems a bit pricey for that location

If I did it, I would probably find somewhere in Montana or California to do it

That's not even glamping, that's just like staying in a cabin.

Yeah, I mean it’s a cabin with a fabric roof.

It doesn't look like there'd be much to do there, at least not for the price tag.

But I'm sure it'll be popular with the New Austin types looking for a retreat and somesuch.

This reminds me of the yurts we stayed in near Seward AK a few years ago. Access by boat only.

I don't get it either. The idea behind getting outdoors is to forsake some modern conveniences for s short time.

I wouldn't mind owning a yurt as a vacation home.
