Starting to plan next summer's vacation... wife has requested New Braunfels. Perhaps a VRBO house on the Guadalupe river, do some rafting, Schlitterbahn, etc.

I've been to SA a bunch and I've been northwest of SA a few times (Fredericksburg, Pedernales Co, Kerrville, etc) but it's been a while since I been on the New Braunfels side.

We will likely go down to SA as well, maybe one day at Sea World, and another evening along the river perhaps after spending time in the caverns (I've done most of the downtown SA stuff and it's hot as balls during the day, Sea World we've done several times, but the kids like it). The gals may take the kids shopping at San Marcos while I hit Spoetzl Brewery over in Shiner.

Likely would have another family with us as well.

So, looking for recommendations on:

1) VRBOs for 8-10 people on or near the Guadalupe River, or at least general areas to look
2) Places to eat
3) Rafting companies
4) Other things to do in the general area.

If you are floating the Comal, we always use Comal Rockin R tubes - right across the park from (short walk) from the river entrance and a longer float time

Wonder World- SM. LINK

Tubing the San Marcos River as well.

Greune Hall- Texas' Oldest Dance Hall. Cool little town with some neat shops. Grist Mill- decent restaurant right on the river.

Snake Farm- New Braunfels

What the difference in floating on the two rivers?

Comal is more developed, has mostly houses on it, and less cool

Guadalupe is the better river. Make sure you check river currents before you go

We stayed inside of Schlitterbahn a few years back. They have a pretty nice two family lodge inside the new park.

Looking at this now. I didn't realize staying there included waterpark passes, and you get them including the day you checkout and the day you leave.

Do you think 2 days is enough to do all the waterpark stuff?

Thinking maybe do 3-4 nights on the river, then on checkout, wake up, go to waterpark, do that day, stay that night, do next day, then head down around Sea World and stay a day or two out there?

We usually do Rock n R and then when we are finished, walk over to Pat's Place and get a cheeseburger or big plate of enchiladas and a cold arse beer. LINK

Use Groupon for tube rentals on the comal and Guadalupe. We just got back from our trip about a month ago and I prob saved 50ish bucks through the Groupon. Comal was through 444 tubing and Guadalupe was thru lonestar float house and grill .. lonestar also had one of the best burgers ive ever had for when we got back from our float.

Comal is shorter and you know what you’ll get every time. The river current doesn’t vary throughout the year.

Guadalupe has multiple trip lengths from multiple drop points all which can vary depending on the level of the River from the release from Canyon Lake Dam.

If you have kids, do the Comal, it is safer and easier on everyone.
