Family of 6(17,14,11,8)

Looking to leave on Sunday from MSY and come back Friday/Saturday.

Looking at possibly flying into Vegas or Phoenix and out of the other.

Would like to do Sedona, Vegas, Zion and any other suggestions

Instead of flying in or out of Phoenix, check out Flagstaff. It’s much closer to Sedona.

Looks like we would be planning to go over Easter.

Direct flight in/out to Vegas on Southwest - 4/4(Sun) - 4/9(Fri)

Using Vegas as a hub of sorts...can anyone rate the following as a yes or no to seeing?

Zion(Considered staying 2 nights here)
Bryce Canyon
Hoover Dam
Yosemite
Death Valley
Red Rock Canyon
Mojave

Yosemite is probably too far from yall when you have so many other places you could go instead.

Hoover Dam is not as great as Zion/Bryce/Death Canyon but it is some cool American history. I did a similar trip 2 years ago and half of our party went to Hoover and half went to Bryce. The half that went to Hoover regretted it.

Zion is one of the nicest places in the US but it does get pretty crowded. If you stayed there you could probably avoid a good chunk of the crowds though. Emerald Pools, Observation Point are good hikes. Angel's Landing is great but pretty sketchy for a family, not sure if I'd try it.

You need to get on google maps and start looking at how far apart things are. Death Valley is just a few hours from Vegas and a day trip with a long day would be possible. Red Rock Canyon is a day or half day trip while staying in Vegas. Yosemite is way too far.

If you are only gone 5 nights, use 1 day to see Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam and then spend the rest seeing Zion and Bryce Canyon.

The places you are listing are taking you all over the place. With a family, I'd only stay one night in Vegas. I'd fly in as early as possible and hit the road to Bryce and Zion. Spend 4 nights out there exploring each and then head back to Vegas to see and few things and spend the last night before heading home. It's really not a base for anything but Hoover Dam, Death Valley, and Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire.

Would not take this group to Vegas at all.

Stick to exploring the other areas you mentioned. We are looking to go exploring the Sedona area in March.

Wife and I did Phoenix to Vegas last October; stayed 2 nights in Sedona, 1 night in Page, AZ and 2 nights in Vegas. Trip was great, only thing I may change would be to stay closer to Zion. We stayed in Page and drove to Zion the following morning. The only thing to see in Page was Horseshoe Bend because Antelope Canyon was closed. I would suggest staying in Kanab or Springdale to be able to spend as much time as you can in Zion.

2 nights in Sedona was perfect, if your family is into hiking they will love Sedona. Wife was actually the one who wanted to go and when we got there I was very impressed. I see why it is turning into such a vacation hotspot.

We ended the trip with a two night Vegas stay just to kind of chill out after all the driving and hiking. But with the ages of your family I would definitely focus on hitting the other 3 places over Vegas. Also try to book your passes for Zion ASAP they fill up fast and especially with covid I believe they are still only giving out a limited amount of shuttle tickets each day.

We just did a similar trip in october. We did it in our motorhome pulling a SUV for day travel over 10 days(way too short).

We stayed on the south rim for 3 nights. 1 day in sedona (3 hrs from the south rim), 1 day in grand canyon. from there we drove 8 hrs or so to Kanab (we posted up here for 3 nights) and hit up Horseshoe Bend outside of Page along the way. We did a day at each Bryce Canyon and Zion. (be sure to do a night at the observatory at Bryce) From there we went to Canyon Lands which is a must as well.

I would skip vegas and hoover damn if i were you.

Keep in mind that the distances between things are not close except for Bryce and Zion.

When we went everything that is on Indian reservations was closed due to covid. So you may want to check.

Still trying to narrow down...but right now this is what we are looking at:

Leaving Easter Sunday - SW has direct flights into Vegas - figured that would be best with kids

Fly in Sunday afternoon to Vegas, stay in Vegas
Monday get up and head to valley of fire stay in Zion Area
Tuesday Zion/Bryce
Wednesday Zion/Bryce
Thursday make way back to Vegas(Caesars)
Friday fly out

Keep trying to narrow it down...It looks like the plan is to stay in Springdale Monday & Tuesday night.

Would it be best to get up Wednesday & head to Bryce and stay the night before heading back for Vegas Thursday around lunch?

Looking into a guided atv tour near zion and then just doing some hiking

This sounds like a great plan. I'd try to be in Bryce during both sunrise and sunset, if possible. It's a beautiful area during that time of day.

Agreed! If possible, I'd not spend the first night in Vegas. By doing so, you are losing a minimum of half a day in one of the parks. If I got to Vegas in the afternoon, I'd go ahead and spend the first night in St. George, UT. It's only 2 hours. Or go on and go to Springdale. That's just another 30 min for 2.5 hours. Then you're very near Zion for exploring on Monday.

Is Bryce drivable from Zion for a long day trip or should we cut 1 night out of Zion to stay near Bryce?

IMO I’d rather stay in Zion. Bryce is max 2 hours away, it’s an easy drive.

Would a day trip to the north rim(looks like 2-3 hours) be worth it from Springdale?

I honestly don't think the North Rim will be open then. It gets pretty snowy during that time of year.

Any other way to see the grand canyon on this trip or do we make that a separate trip in a few years?

Would Grand Canyon West/Skywalk be open this time of year and worth the day trip from Vegas?

May come back one night early from Zion and back to Vegas. This would give us the next day to go to Hoover and Grand Canyon and get back to Vegas just for that night to walk around with the kids.

So that would give us:
Sunday - Arrive Vegas and drive to Zion
Monday - Zion
Tuesday - Zion
Wednesday - Zion and back to Vegas that night
Thursday - GC and Vegas
Friday - Home
