Work is realigning some of my territories. Dropping off some smaller markets in the SE and picking up with frequency 3 markets that SW flies direct from MSY and Delta does not.

I’m Gold on Delta and I’d likely make it to A-List preferred on SW.

Am I losing it or is this a good idea?

If you can get to companion pass status, you can have a passenger fly free. Switch the name of your companion 4 times a year I believe.

I could get to companion pass via CC spend/bonus points. At least through 2019.

To be honest, the reason I’m strongly considering it is because it Should reduce the days I’m on the road with the non-stop frequencies.

Been mulling it over myself. Platinum on Delta but I like the friends fly free and SW has some better direct flights. Not sure I want to abandon my status even though Delta is becoming a pain

SW has no change or cancellation fees which is huge for me in addition to CP. I book any flights I'm even thinking about taking. If my schedule changes, can take a more convenient flight as well. Don't have to pay extra for bags. Not sure how much of that applies to your situation, but it certainly won't hurt when it comes time to take a vacation.

Doesn’t really change anything for me. I’ve maybe paid a change fee on Delta once. They’re pretty lenient with them for their elites.

You can also use your points for any flight, any time on SWA.

Call Rapid Rewards. A couple of months ago, they were allowing anyone who had Elite status with another airline to match to Preferred status on SWA. (May have been part of our corp discount)

I think for someone usually flying for business (I.e. traveling solo and not paying for their ticket) Southwests 2 biggest perks (no change fees and companion pass) don’t carry as much value.

I travel about 35-40 weeks a year and am almost strictly SW so my opinion is that your making a good move but that could be bias.

In my experience, the pros are:
pretty consistent on-time flights
very few cancellations
good route options to major airports (getting even better with ever growing routes to destination locations)
Points redemption
Companion pass
Boarding process
Consistent drink tickets
Bags fly free (if needed)
quick layover turnaround
ability to change to an earlier flight the day of your travel for free

The cons are:
No first class and it’s
Perks (coming from delta this may be a bigger deal for you)
Level of flight attendant attractiveness ( this seems to be going down lately)
No europe destinations
Limited routes in certain areas of the country (thinking this won’t affect you)

And the biggest Pro of them all: LIMITING CONNECTIONS THROUGH ATLANTA.

I was Global Services on United for a long time, and switched from United solely when I started doing more domestic travel. The thing I have learned is that no matter the travel perks, there is nothing better than direct flights.

I think you are making the right call.

Delta has much more comfortable flights, but I prefer to fly SW because they offer more direct flights to the locations I need to travel. I used to fly Delta, but flying through Atlanta is too hit or miss for me so I go for the sure thing with SW. I have the companion pass with SW and with my work, I often have to make same day flight changes and I don't get penalized by SW. I was thinking about changing to American because it looks like my next markets will be smaller markets with regional airports.

Correct. My debate right now is does SW fly enough places for us when we do travel for pleasure, and do I want to drive to MSY for every flight.

Also, how does SW handle IROPS for A-List people? DL bends over backwards for me anytime I’ve got a delay or issue and truthfully, that’s why I stay with them.

Depends on the routes. Where you looking st flying to/from out of MSY?

As a delta diamond I have found that their service/product is worth more connections to me. I also can’t stand the Southwest crowd/terminal at MSY.

Primary locations would be DEN, ATL, PBI/FLL, and HOU. I usually drive Houston, though. And my secondary locations would be RDU, CHS, MAF, and TPA.

DEN is a PITA to get to on DL from BTR/MSY, ATL I'm almost exclusively out of MSY because of the prices.

Yeah. B Concourse is garbage, but new terminal will be done next year.

All things equal I am picking DL over SW every time especially for business travel. However, if the connections differ based on airline I am 100% avoiding the one with more connections. Now I might take a connecting flight once every couple months to maintain singularity with one airline but if it is more frequent than that I am going to the other airline.

I am similar to you (Gold with delta) but moved to chicago last year and now probably fly united/aa 20 segments a year simply bc it is significantly cheaper and direct on a few routes.
