Will have 3 days in London. I have been several times before but have not done a lot of touring. What are some of the boards favorite museums/exhibits/pubs? Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park Christmas Market are on our list.

Also will be in Leicester for 5 days. Any recs for the area?

British Museum was amazing. I had a great time in Greenwich going to the park and the Observatory to take my cliche selfie on the Prime Meridian. The markets there were pretty neat. I bought a late 1800s map of London that was worth every pound. I should have picked up some of the WW2/Nazi items that had for sale as well. On that note, the Imperial War Museum is another top notch place to go.

Tower of London is really cool; multiple parts...my tip is to go at opening, and rush over to the section containing the Crown Jewels. You’ll beat the crowd, can really look/see (not easy when it’s crowded, there is a moving sidewalk to keep people from lingering), and can then make your leisurely way around the rest of the compound. It’s so layered with history—worth reading a guidebook section on it, or even a whole book, to truly appreciate the setting. The Thames riverboat “buses” are inexpensive, and you can leave from the Tower and go across the river up to London Bridge/Southwark or farther along for just a few bucks (get an Oyster card to make transit easier).

I think St Paul’s is worth a visit; church itself is impressive, but the basement crypt has a decent exhibit on the Great Fire, if you’re into history.

Borough Market in Southwark is a good place to start a lunchtime walk along that bank of the Thames...eat lunch from the Market’s stalls, then you can stroll from there to the Tate Modern, passing the re-created Globe Theater along the way.

The British Museum is mind boggling. The Brits brought all kinds of artifacts and treasures back from all over the world. The Rosetta Stone may be the coolest thing in there but there is just so much that eventually your brain goes numb. I think it's simply the greatest museum in the world.

Check out Churchill's War Rooms, not too far from Westminster Abbey which is another must see. And the Tower of London for sure.

Greenwich Market.

Borough Market is better, IMO, and it is right in London. Greenwich Market is worth a look if you are already out that way, but no need to make a special trip.

Portobello Road Market is huge and has lots of great food booths and stores along the way. It's focused on Friday and Saturday.

Good deal. Thanks for the rec's. Churchill's War Room is added to the list.

And yes I have heard the British Museum is insane. How much time should I plan for that?

For the British Museum, I would say half a day at least, I would also look into the Victoria & Albert Museum. The Tower of London was amazing, definitely take hungry's advice and see the crown jewels first, then tour the grounds.

You can't go wrong with Westminster Abbey or St. Pauls, and I also enjoyed touring Parliament/Westminster Palace.

This. It doesn't take long to go through if you are already took the Thames boat to get there. BTW, prepare for Asians to be a huge pain in the arse where ever you go. My pic on the Prime Meridian was probably one of the hardest to take in my life...ever

Understand that. I couldn't get a pic anywhere in Rome, they are very stealthy too, you think you have an opening and BAM.

I always thought they were bad back home in Vegas. London was to the point they were legitimately deteriorating the experience for people

Yes--I experienced much of the same in Greenwich in May. Large group tours, monopolizing areas for endless photos. We got sick of waiting and basically shouldered our way into the midst of the group and took our own pics. Selfie sticks were everywhere, and far too many people were just taking photos rather than actually seeing/experiencing things. I gave up caring whether I was accidentally in someone's photos or ruined a shot. Not my concern....why not just buy a damn postcard for the "best view". Bless those venues that ban selfie sticks and photos.

ETA: just over a week ago, an otherwise nice trip to the Louvre was nearly ruined by the phone-photographing hordes. Few, if any, were looking/reflecting on the art...it was all a rushed mob of people taking pictures of themselves (or their friends) in front of Important Object X. The room containing the Mona Lisa was literally a sea of upstretched arms, holding phone cameras up for a shot. To me, all interior pics should be banned; this conduct can ruin the museum experience for other viewers, as photographers invariably take up space, paralyze the flow of traffic, and monopolize the best viewing angles. Even in the outdoor sculpture garden at the Musee Rodin, the photographing hordes were out of control.

Sounds like our itinerary several years ago.

The British Museum, aka "The Queen's Attic," is like strolling through human history. It's so awesome, several countries want their stuff back.

Totally agree and I am a person that is guilty of taking those pics. How can someone not take time to reflect on those pieces is beyond me. I also don't get people not taking their pic and getting out of the way

Borough market is always good

South Banks market has a pretty good Christmas set up. Its near the London Eye.

Pubs one the river will always be expensive bc its central London.

How much do you like potato chips and farm land.

If you are in the midlands check out Birmingham.

Leicester, see the Richard III exhibit there and the Cathedral with his burial area.

You’re not too far from Coventry, the Cathedral (Ruins) and the Transport Museum in Coventry were interesting to me.

Are you going to have a car or will you be relying on public transport/cabs/über?

If you have a rental, Coventry and Woolsthorpe Manor (Newton’s Birthplace) are both within an hour’s drive of Leicester but in opposite directions from each other.

Have a pint for me whilst there!

If it interests you and you are there during the Winter Solstice, consider making a trip up to Stonehenge, watch Druids partake in their ceremonies.

Also I thought Golden Hind up in Marylebone are the best fish and chips I've had in London

Yes planning on Richard III.

Taking train from London to Leicester, then if we need one when we get there we will.

Royal Ballet will also be in session with The Nutcracker, one of the top 5 companies in the world. Their interpretation of The Nutcracker is probably my favorite.
