Going visit family but will have about a day or two to see the city. We both like to eat and drink. Any ideas?

Q39 and Joe's KC BBQ are better than Jack Stack.

Agree... Jack stack might have better sides. Also forgot to mention Slaps and if you are a boubon/whiskey person make sure to hit up Julep.

Maybe not the best person to ask as I’ve only ever been to KC once several years back... but definitely enjoyed my time there...

Enjoyed:
—Arthur Bryant’s original location
—Oklahoma Joe’s (gas station place right across the Kansas state border). I preferred this place of all BBQ locations and ate there the final two days after someone recommended it.

—And Kauffman Stadium is one of my top 10 favorite ballparks (I’ve been to 28 out of 30). It’s very underrated. Get a “Pulled Pork Mac & Jack Sausage”.

I’ll bookmark this page for ideas when I go back next summer.

I take it you went after renovations, as just a few years ago you could make a solid argument it was the worst stadium along with tampa.

obviously the country club plaza is the main attraction, but I find westport to be more enjoyable unless you prefer shopping.

Theres 3 main drinking districts.

Club plaza - upper class wine and dine
Westport - fun, unique bars, but younger
Power and Lights - all commercial bars, bars you can go to in almost most cities.

Char bar is amazing. A cool resturant in a fairly cool down town.

Best breakfast is The Shack

Just spent a month there for work. Here were my favorites:

WW1 Museum
Nelson-Atkins Museum
Joe's Original KC Bbq
Q39 was good - their burgers looked awesome, lot of people were ordering them.
Char Bar was ok
Country Club Plaza
City Market
Went to Royals game at The K

I stayed in Lee's Summit. Downtown Lee's Summit is cool with a few good places to eat & drink- Third Street Social, Smoke, and The W.

Bumping this thread because I'm meeting my brother and a few buddies in KC next weekend for the Packers / Chiefs game. We're staying in Columbus Park, so relatively close to downtown.

We're close to Strange Days Brewing, so we'll probably walk by there. I was reading that Slap's is supposed to be pretty good BBQ and isn't too terribly far so we'll probably hit that. We're planning to head to Leinie's in the Power and Light district Saturday morning because it's a Badger bar and will be jumping for the OSU game with all the Packer fans in town.

Beyond that we're kinda open. I hate shitty chain restaurants and I hate places that are in malls or designed to look like they have character. I love original/local/dive places. Love bourbon and good beer, BBQ, burgers, and people watching.

It seems like most of the other good BBQ places mentioned are south or southwest of the city by a bit. Willing to travel a ways but don't want to be in a car all weekend.

Any other places to grab a great burger or bourbon old fashioned? Any places in the downtown / Columbus Park area for a good breakfast?
