We went to Bar Harbor in late July. Very crowded. My two kids who live on east coast went in early June, before schools were out and it wasn’t crowded. I’d say early/mid June or just after Labor Day.

In the process of planning the trip. Going to fly into Boston and take the late Amtrak into Portland.

Where is the best place to stay to minimize driving? Should we be in downtown Portland? Based on maps, it looks like it would be pretty easy to walk. Plan to Uber, but I guess I could still rent a car if needed.

Is it worth going in early November? I know its late and will be chilly, and a different experience then Summer. I'm fine with that. Is there lobster to be had and things open? I just don't want to go if almost everything is shut down. I understand limited hours and what not.

We were there last Aug and a business owner (a lobster pound) told us that they had to either be a year round business or a seasonal one. I assumed it was a state law; summer seasonal businesses are likely closed in Nov.

A ranger at Acadia NP said some roads were closed in winter but you could still access the park but not in a vehicle. I think she said they closed roads in Nov but may have been late in the month.

We went in October right before Halloween. Everything was normal. Got cold at night but coming from LA, that’s what we wanted to experience.
