Stick with morning and midday flights. The airlines will not fly any planes that require crews to spend the evening in Nola due to no power at hotels
You should be good on the morning and 3pm flights as of current

Sitting at the airport now. The 2273 flight from Atlanta arrived and we are waiting to board.
There is one line for security but barely anyone here so it didn't take too long. It's a bit warm but I was imagining much worse. Bathrooms are running.
It looks like, in addition to the Delta flights, Spirit, SunCountry, and Allegiant each have one flight today.
This would be a nightmare and impossible to manage if there were a lot of flights, but with the small crowd, it's not bad.

How was parking at the airport? Glad it doesn't sound as bad as it could be. Southwest starts on Saturday so expect it to get a lot busier there
Eta: Southwest is flying a flight today, wonder if it's with a bunch of employees to figure out operations at the airport. LINK

Looking at the flight number ,8858, it is a non-rev flight
Posted on 9/2/21 at 12:12 pm to midlothianlsu
I'd caution using the 8,000 numbered flights as nonrev, but for today I think you're right. It looks like kbdos flight numbers are in the 8,000s as well and that's revenue for saturday

Parked in the long term garage. No issues. Parking gates were powered up. Plenty of space.
There were police at the entrance to the airport who stopped you to make sure you had a flight. I guess they aren't letting people in to go try to catch a flight they don't have a boarding pass for.

Wonder if MSY will be open on Monday, September 6 to handle returning flights from Ucla game?
Posted on 9/2/21 at 1:06 pm to Stevo
Delta is on track for operating more flights out of MSY tomorrow including flights to Detroit. They have also extended their waiver through Sept 12, will update the OP when I get home later today

Cuse, do you think Houston Hobby will comp my long term parking bill since I had to change my flights due to Ida. I parked my car Monday around 4pm and won’t be getting it until this coming Monday.

I doubt it. You can plead your case but don't think it will turn out well

Just got email from delta that my flight to Detroit from MSY tomorrow is on!
Posted on 9/2/21 at 3:48 pm to jgiff2
Went to pick my car up from the airport today.
Concourse was actually air conditioned and you could use the restroom. If anyone still needs to get their car from last week show them the Airport Twitter post and they'll waive the extra fees.

Solid point, my outbound on Monday is on schedule, my return Wednesday night was canceled. Rebooked to the 7pm arrival. Turns out they aren’t leaving planes overnight.

Hell yes, one of the lucky flights that wasn't cancelled.

Nice update on the terminal and good parking savings. What'd they post on twitter?

What's the specific flight and airline? I'd be cautious about getting back at 7pm versus say 4 or 5pm as the airlines will want a return flight for that plane. The latest delta flight tomorrow is a 4:22pm to Atlanta, southwest, american, jetblue, and united still haven't operated revenue flights. I saw they have plans for starting on saturday so I guess it's see how it goes then increase your operations

@FlyNewOrleans says if you show the person at the gate your original flight schedule they'll take off whatever extended time it's been in the garage.
Also, I've been in constant contact with car rentals on the corporate level and New Orleans is closed indefinitely.
Lafayette as surprisingly as this is has been closed as well even though flights are on schedule.

I just now got to an area that has internet and see that southwest still has my family and I flying out of MSY on 9/11 to Seattle. However my fly home from Spokane on 9/18 ends in Las Vegas. They cancelled my Vegas to MSY leg.
I haven't flown in 16 years. Is my best option to try to fly into Jackson or somewhere else with Southwest or wait a week and see if that flight comes back as power gets restored? Or other options?

I would not plan on the Vegas flight coming back anytime soon. Call them and work on rebooking/see if you can get in and out of MSY. If not, then I'd rebook the whole trip to/from Jackson
