High elevation camping/fishing

Have a group of five good friends wanting to plan a high elevation camping and fishing trip in mid July. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or experience. We want to hike, set up camp and basically fish for five days. Good friend of ours lives out west in Idaho. He has a lot of experience and the rest of us aren’t rookies. Just wondering if anyone had any great spots. We are looking towards the jackson, WY area right now. Thanks!

if you are from below sea level, high altitude can be a real, for true problem. was for me in CO. this past Sept. purchased an expensive 5wt.fly outfit for the week long trip, never used it.

I have never been but the Wind River Range is on my bucket list. If you are looking at WY it is probably worth considering.

In some ways, I had saved the best for last. I had been wanted to come to the Wind River Range for more than a decade, after first hearing about it from my older brother Ted (who had a couple wonderful family camping trips there), and then from my Vermont fishing friend David Crowne (who takes regular trips out there). Ted lived in Alaska for eight years, in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina for several years before that, and on the edge of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains before that. And he still speaks of the Wind River Range as among the most beautiful places he has ever visited, and one of the places he most wants to return to. Indeed, everybody I have ever talked to or heard from who has gone to the Wind River Range has gone back—or wanted to go back.
Part of the draw for me was the wilderness fly-fishing—getting away from the crowds and casting flies for wild trout of a variety of species in river and lakes where I could go days without seeing another angler or even another human. But part of the draw was just the wilderness itself, apart from any fishing. Photos and accounts from friends suggested it was one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the country, and far less crowded than many other places of lesser beauty.

Wind River Range:
How do you catch fish, clean fish, cook fish....in grizzly bear CENTRAL without worrying about getting eaten yourself??
I’ve always wondered this.

Do stuff away from camp and bury the waste well. Keep your head on a swivel, those frickers are incredibly stealthy. Some places you can put fish waste back in water if it's deep. Some states dont allow.
We had a bear destroy our zodiac this summer and we couldn't get back to the boat until the tide went down

Well said. The monsters out west are nothing to dismiss.
