We are heading on a van tour to Yellowstone on Sunday and then had a whitewater rafting trip planned for Monday. Weather forecast is looking a bit cold.
First time to Montana, do we need winter type coats or is layering a better idea.
Kids mainly have sweatpants and we do not have a whole lot of cold weather gear other than what's needed for SE LA!

Will you be out in the snow? Then you’ll need waterproof outer layers. Shoes especially. Gloves if you have them.

This time of year, it might only snow for a little bit, with rain before and after. So it won’t stick around for long. So a raincoat with warmer layers underneath would work too.

Southern white people problems.

Jokes aside, go with layers. Heavy winter gear won’t be worth the hassle with your limited expected contact with winter ish weather.

Love Montage. The one in Laguna Beach might be one of my favorite hotels of all time.

Always bring layers to the mountains. Storms popup all the time. You don't want to be without a jacket that you can tie around your waste.

Are y'all rafting the Gallatin?

We went in '17 and rafted it and did some fly fishing on it. Truly beautiful area!

I saw where yall are getting real snow, like 6-14". Wish we were at least cooling off in Colorado but we are missing all of it,

Good luck.

We were there last year about this time and it snowed 8 inches on June 22. It didn't really stick though. We had our fishing trip cancelled that day, but we went the next day. We rafted on June 24 in shorts and t-shirts and swam in the river. The snow didn't stick around except in the very high elevations and it did mess up some of our hikes as we neared the top of the trail. We still wore shorts and short sleeve shirts most of the week. I brought a very light jacket and rarely wore it.
