The wife (no pics) and I are headed to Punta Cana on Thursday and staying through labor day. We are staying at Excellence El Carmen. I read some older TD reviews several months back that turned me on to this resort over others in the area. We are mostly going to be hanging at the resort and avoiding big adventure on this trip as she is almost 7 months pregnant. We've been watching the Tropics and luckily it looks like we won't be made into an OT meme.

I wanted to ask, any recommendations on do's and dont's, best places to eat, etc?

Hoping I will be able to catch the game on Sunday. TIA!

Went to Punta Cana once. Can't remember where we stayed but I can tell you the ride from the airport to the resort revealed the place is a shitehole. I'd stay on the resort and only leave to go back to the airport.

Yeah I've head that, that is more or less what we are planning on doing right now. Looks like the resort is a decent way from the city of Punta Cana.

There’s a beach restaurant/bar called Castaways right next door to the resort, can just walk there on the beach. It’s a pretty good change of pace if you want a non-resort meal at some point.

I stayed at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana five years ago. We didn't leave the resort but I did notice a Hard Rock Casino on the ride from the airport. Excellence El Carmen was beautiful but I found the beach to be too rough to enjoy and the seaweed was really bad. That may have just been the time of year which was March 2018.

We stayed there 2 years ago. The resort is pretty but very large. I enjoyed the outdoor bars scattered around the property. Not trying to be negative but I did find a lot of the food just had an odd flavor to it. Maybe it was the type of container they store it in… you’ll have a good time if you are just trying to relax. If you want to get out on a boat we chartered a catamaran through happy fish catamarans and it was a lot of fun. Maybe not with a 7 mo pregnant wife though.

Stayed at excellence el carman years back and stayed on the resort the entire time . You’ll see on your ride from the airport there’s nothing you want to do outside the resort . It’s a great resort and hopefully you sprung for the excellence club package the perks are great .

We’re staying there in December. Search Facebook for the Welcome to Excellence El Carmen group. Tons of good info in there.
