This will be our first time in Europe.
Any advice? Places to see? We have concerns about the language barrier, currency issues etc...
Thanks

In Germany now just north of Zurich. Weather is fantastic. Went to Lucerne many years ago. I recommend looking at a short tour up Mt. Pilatus. great views from up there.

Everyone speaks english as its the unofficial language euros use with each other. Currency is easy, just add 25% in your head to the price of something in Euros. Tax is usually included in the posted price. Use your AtM card to withdraw cash as this is usually the best exchange rate you will get. Check with your bank first to see what kind of fees they charge for international withdrawals but its usually the same fee you would get charged for a withdrawal at home....at least its the same for me. I use my credit card when ever possible as I don't get hit with any international transaction fees on mine....again, check with your card holder.
Make scan copies or take a good pic w/ your phone of passports, credit cards, Atm card and other important documents and email them to yourself and to your wife so you have copies if things disappear. At least you will know your passport #, CC#, etc.

Lucerne - The Old Swiss House by the Lion Monument is a good restaurant. My favorite jewelry store anywhere is the big Bucherer in Lucerne. Two beautiful churches - the Cathedral and the Jesuit Church. It is a small city and everything is within walking distance.

Language barrier will not a problem. Currency won’t be problem either - just do the Euro to USD math in your head to figure an approximate cost for what you want to buy. Only thing to make sure of (and you probably would do this anyway) is to carry a little bit of cash with you. Credit cards are widely accepted but the small store you may want to step into to buy a Coke may not take them. So just be prepared for an occasional cash only place.

Lucerne is incredible. As someone mentioned, definitely take a visit up Mt Pilatus (it's the large peak that you'll see towering over Lucerne). The views from up there over Lucerne and the lake are unreal. If you only had time for one thing, this should be it.
Not sure how long you will be there, but it's an easy drive to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald from there. Lauterbrunnen is like something out of a fairy tale and loaded with waterfalls. We also did a cheap lake boat tour that was really enjoyable.
The Swiss Franc is the currency of Switzerland. Many places will accept Euros, but you may pay more than if using CHFs. Best bet is to use a CC w/no foreign transaction fees, as CCs are accepted almost everywhere there. FYI, Switzerland is pricey...but worth every penny.
FYI, be prepared for masses of Chinese tourists. They can be thick in a lot of places, but I've never seen as many as I did there.

Lauterbrunnen is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

Correct. Totally overlooked the OP referring to Switzerland.

Can confirm, Andre Aggasi was there when we were several years ago. Get the schnitzel. The Lion is also a very moving monument.
OP, would recommend a tour of the KKL, walking the medieval walls of the city and even climbing one of the towers if you're up for a little exercise, as well as doing a boat tour of the lake and of course walking across the Chapel Bridge. Lucerne is a gorgeous place, enjoy

Mount Pilatus
Anyone rode the cable car or Gondola?

Yes. We had to buy tickets at the train station (easy walk from everything in Lucerne). This includes your bus ticket to the base of Pilatus where you hop on the gondola. We went on the first one up, hoping to get early clear views. It ended up being clear all day and we could hardly force ourselves to leave.
There's a stop, half-way up, where you get out and change gondolas. It's a cool little area with restaurant and souvenirs.
