Who has done it and where?
I haven't heard about any locations within an easy drive from here, but would love to know more about any places in the region.

I was in the Gulf State Park last month in Orange Beach and stumbled on what their idea of a glamping set up was and it was pretty pathetic (well at least for considering it in the summer it would not be fun).

I saw they had some in Utah and we considered it till I saw the price. $200+ a night for a tent with a community bathroom when, for the same money, I could stay in a nice hotel with a pool with a kitchenette for less money...

I thought glamping was camping in a fancy trailer?

That's what it means around my parts.

I know it to be fancy arse tents/canopies, usually on a platform or something. Usually a lot nicer and more comfortable than a tent

Texas hill country has a few places. Search this board, I posted a link and some pics a while back.

I think this is accurate. Or sometimes it's just a bit better than normal tents and beds/cots that are already set up and come with all the necessary accessories.

A place on the Guadalupe near Seguin, TX that I've heard a lot of folks really enjoy (multiple coworkers have been) is Son's Island. From what I understand, it really is like the pictures on the website.

Yeah some seem to be pricy no doubt. I guess the positive of staying in one is that you are still outside and in the woods, etc. vs that hotel room.

Let's be honest, it's basically an entire industry devoted to instagram

But I have nothing against the concept. Some look amazing, some look pretty dull.

Pretty much.

I have some friends getting married and having a whole weekend party of it at one of these places. Looks cool, we have a nice looking cabin in hill country with a hot tub and all.

It's a way to get more money from chicks who post pics on social media. You're better off just getting a cabin.

Well shite. Y’all seem dead set on talking up this social media aspect that I might as well give up on the idea.
As I understand if there are some pretty basic ones out there and that’s what I would want. Not a $200 a night luxury place

We just did two nights at Under Canvas in Moab. It's cool for a change of pace. It's expensive though.

Bed is super comfortable, it's got misters and little USB powered fans to keep you cool, a little wood burning fire thing I guess for the winter and you have your own bathroom/pull shower.

My only real complaint is you are too close to other tents and even the road. Part of the appeal to me was that it would feel more remote but I heard more noise there than in any of the other places we stayed during our trip.

I feel like you're probably better off financially as well as the actual experience if you just rent an RV. Out west is a lot of BLM where you can boondock for free. There is plenty to see and the dry air is a welcome change from humidity. If you like to stay on the move, a PCH road trip in an RV can be a lot of fun.

Nothing wrong with glamping, but it's usually overpriced (which makes it a draw for some) and you can get better renting a house or cabin.

PArk Ranger at Grand Teton told me glamping started the Yellowstone/ Grand Teton area to keep predators out of the ranchers pastures and killing the cows. Laughed when he said people pay big money to be grizzly bait.
