Flying into Marsh Harbor (The Abacos, Bahamas) in 2 weeks. Staying in a house on the beach 20 mins away from the airport. We are staying 7 days and renting a van.

Any dos?

Any don'ts?

TIA

Just got back. Great time for sure. I would definitely go back to Marsh Harbour. Some lessons learned:
- Groceries, beer, eating out, essentials are very expensive. Either be prepared to spend $50 per case of Kalik or more for our domestics, or really pay attention to what you shop for.
- Be prepared for your rental car to be a POS...OR make sure you request (and be prepared to pay for) a nicer vehicle. If you get the POS...don't worry, you won't stick out.
- Regardless of the rental...get ready to Mario Kart the potholes. They DO NOT play around.
- Ask for "Drew" at/around Mangoes. No telling if he works there or not, but he can get you anything you need. He knows everyone and everyone knows him. He's a fast talker and I'm pretty sure he works solely off tips.
- Gas is not crazy expensive, but it's high.
- If you need internet...Abacos is not the place for you.
- Nippers is definitely worth it.
- Pete's Pub is really cool. The lunch menu is 1/2 of the price of the dinner menu.
- If you want to charter fish, make sure it's the right time of year to catch what you're after. We wanted tuna, but wrong time of year. We struck out.
- Electricity was VERY spotty, even on pretty days. Roll with the punches. It'll turn back on....it always did.
- Most places do not have AC...again, roll with the punches...go swimming.

Overall a great time and I would definitely recommend it! Get to know the locals and definitely try the conch. Go snorkeling. Go to Nippers. RELAX!

Where are you staying? We stayed in Treasure Cay two years ago. In Treasure Cay you can eat at the Bahama Beach Club, Coco Beach Bar & Grill, or the Tipsy Seagull is popular on Tuesdays for pizza night.

We rented a boat from the rental place in Treasure Cay.

Go to Green Turtle Cay to get Goombay Smashes from Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar. Careful... they wrecked me! You can then pop over to the Green Turtle Cay Resort/Beach Club for a drink and a dip in the pool. Pineapple bar & grill has an ice cold pool that was super refreshing. ***Order conch salad from the stand on your way into the island and pick it up on the way out. Took a while.

Go to Elbow Cay and eat/drink at Cracker P's Bar and Grill. From there, head over to Lubbers Quarters and see the lighthouse. Wrap the day up at the Firefly Resort for food/drink or a dip in the pool.

Snorkel mid-morning (post-shark time) and head to Guana cay for a day and go to Nipper's. I think Sunday is a big day with some sort of pig roast.

On the south end of the island you can drive, or boat, to Pete's Pub and spend the day. Cool place.

The last day in Treasure Cay we spend the day at Treasure Sands Club. Place was badass.

ETA: I guess you have to go feed the pigs one day. It's lame as shite, but you should probably do it. What is really badass is feeding the stingrays. I'll have to ask where we did that.

Thanks!

We are staying a house near The Abaco Club on Winding Bay. The house is not associated with any resort or club. It looks like Treasure Bay is about 45 - 50 min away (to the north).

Did ya'll stay close to Treasure Bay?

Oh... I just looked at where it is. Way the F from where I was. My buddy's family has had a condo in Treasure Cay for 15-20 years. We stayed there. From my list, the simplest looks like Pete's Pub. I'm sure there is a way to boat to all the places I mentioned, just not sure if you can do it solo or need to get a captain.

Highway goes that way. I think Treasure Bay may have the only public golf course too. We have 7 days....may check all that stuff out. Thanks again!

UPDATE IN THE OP

TheWiz, Treasure Cay wasn't in the cards this trip. It was too far of a trip for an all day'er just to satisfy only my golfing needs. But, great time none-the-less.

We definitely dove for conch, ate tons of it too. We did Pete's Pub multiple times. I even have a video of one of the Mrs. taking a backflip fall off of the swings. Good times.

If you make it back, Nippers is 100% a must see.

It's awful, isn't it? Now's the time to help out. Chef Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen effort is on the ground in Nassau, working to get into the impacted areas to feed people ASAP. You can donate to his charity here: LINK His group cooked & served more than 3 million meals in Puerto Rico in 2017.

If you've been through a disaster's aftermath, you know that a hot meal after a long day of cleanup/restoration/rebuilding can indeed give you the strength to get up and do it all again the next day.

We make a trip almost every year. While it’s not my favorite island of the Bahamas it definitely had the best bone fishing in the world.

Are there any other destinations in the world where you can rent your own boat and take it around crystal clear sea waters?

is this a sailboat or a motor boat? I am talking about a 27' or bigger center console boat...

those look like yachts...I am looking for something smaller and not something to sleep on...ie, rent a home on island but boat around on a 27' center console...did that last year in the Abacos and it was amazing.

Ahhh. You can do that on Spanish wells in Eleuthera. Eleuthera and Abacos are very similar.

My father in law brings his yacht to compass cay for a few months out of the year. We usually make it up there for a week or two each year. It’s a 5 minute boat ride from Staniel Cay. We usually fly out of Fort Lauderdale on Watermakers air to Staniel Cay. Blue water fishing is like a mile off shore. Super easy to pull up some yellow eye snapper for a fish fry. Conch is the hardest shite In the world to open. Get a sledge hammer or a well versed Bahamian lol. Lobster diving was also pretty fun. I wish i lived there simple but fun life.
