The wife and I, and son (26 y/o), are going in August and was looking for recs on hotels/resorts

We already have the Mandarin Oriental booked but it isn't a casino hotel. Didn't know if a casino hotel/resort wouldn't be better.

Thanks in advance

The bellagio is outdated. I think the Aria is very nice. But to be honest I’ve only been once and wasn’t a fan of Vegas, so I know there will be plenty of people that can be of more assistance than I.

I would stay at Planet Hollywood. It is a decent place, fairly cheap, and in the middle of everything. Also, make sure you go to Freemont Street one night. It is tons of fun.

I’ve heard mandarin oriental is pretty nice. How badly do you want to gamble?

Fremont street is really cool and worth a visit. The strip has all the fancier hotels and better shows but they are more spread out.

I think you will have a good time as long as you don’t pick a really cheap one. It’s easy to taxi around to your show or a different casino if you want.

Haven't been in the MO in LV, but I know it's a luxury hotel and in a good location. Not having a casino could be a good thing with fewer people running around.

I don't think so.

Yes, it is.

If I had a room booked at the MO, I sure wouldn't trade it for PH.

Agree.

We all have different tastes, but IMO (and what probably would be the opinion of most others) there are way better shows in Vegas than Mindfreak.

I wouldn't want to walk from Mandalay Bay to the Wynn, but if you stay relatively center Strip (and the MO is pretty close to that) most of the better things to do are within a reasonable walk. Besides, walking the Strip is part of the experience of Vegas.

In my opinion, this would be a fantastic place to stay. The Aria casino is basically right below you, and you're on a central part of the strip that's within easy walking distance of many sights, like the Cosmo, Bellagio fountains, etc. I'm sure the rooms are superb as well.

The Monte Carlo is going through some renovations that shouldn't be noisy enough to travel to the Mandarin Oriental. But it might be safer to request a north-facing room all the same.

I've heard some complaints about the rooms in the Bellagio not being up to the standards of similar-priced properties such as the Cosmo, Venetian, Wynn, etc.

Visting the Bellagio fountain, flower garden, and chocolate fountain are musts. Staying there is reportedly not as great.

Agreed. Cosmo also has a casino and it's right next door. Stay where you want to stay. You can walk into any resort/casino and they will be happy to take your money.

Get tix to Absinthe at Ceasar's. It's a mix of burlesque, vaudeville, and Cirque. The humor is raunchy, and it's hilarious. But hey, you're going to Sin City...

Drink TONS of water. Esp in August. Dont walk far during the day. Save that for night. You can Uber/Lyft everywhere easily.

I’d cancel the room at mandarin and stay at aria or Cosmo instead. They’re all next to each other, similar price and quality.

Edit- if you’d actually prefer to stay on a property without a casino, vdara is a slightly better option as it’s connected to aria, so it’s a bit more convenient if at some point you’d like to gamble, or get a quick bite to eat at aria (they have an awesome pizza place).

If you have reservations at the Mandarin Oriental you should keep them. I have never stayed there but in any city in the world, the M.O. will be as good a hotel as you will find.. When you want to go to a casino you will not have any trouble finding one. My current favorite in Vegas is the Venetian. My nostalgic favorite is Caesar's Palace where I have been going since 1980.

Absolutely agree. I have been to many shows in Vegas (including all of the CDS shows) and it's my favorite. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you don't mind raunchy humor it's quite good.

Mandalay is pretty disconnected. The monorail is actually pretty nice but under used. You could stay at the mgm and have a monorail entrance right there

I understand what you’re saying, but I consider location way more important than having a super nice room. Except when I am sleeping, I am never in the room anyway. Plus, Planet Hollywoods location is so convenient. You are in the middle of everything.

I (personally) do not splurge on hotel rooms either and put a premium on convenient locations not just in LV but everywhere. However, the OP currently has a room at the MO. That tells me he either has a lot of money or is looking to splurge on a nice hotel for this trip. If I were in his position I would stick with the MO. It’s bound to be nicer than the PH and the convenience factor between the two is pretty negligible.

In terms of Vegas, I agree with rich4pres, although planet Hollywood wouldn’t be my first recommendation (it’s not bad though, and good if on a budget).

I’ve stayed at Mandarin in Vegas and while the rooms are A+, there’s nothing to do in the hotel, and you’ll have to leave the property to do anything besides grab a cup of coffee or a quick snack.
