Any recs to make this trip less trashy? Is the food decent at least? I'm also not springing for a drink package.

No, embrace the trashy, it's fun.

No, the food is not inedible, but it's very average to mediocre. Don't expect it to be great, but you can eat as much of whatever you like. So if the only thing you like at dinner is an appetizer, order more of it.

No drink package would suck, why would you do this to yourself.

I've never done Holland or celebrity they are for old people

Holland is a floating retirement home, but it is very nice. Very chill ships and activities that tend to be high intensity are pretty much always free. If you want a peaceful ship, they are good for that.

Celebrity really fits well with the 30s-50s crowd. I like Celebrity a lot for when we leave the kid at home.

How do you know whether you'll like it or not if you never been on one? You must be an avid OT Lounge reader. Alot of those guys trash anything that moves to make themselves feel better.

I've been on 11-12 cruises on various cruise lines, always come back to Carnival. They are just more fun for people like me that have a good attitude and actually enjoy meeting people / partying.

Several other posters on here have already stated that Carnival is the party cruise line and the others are like old folks homes. I can't imagine having a Batchelor party on a Norwegian, unless the groom is 65.

If you can afford the drink package, get it. If you're trying to save money, smuggle booze in. Years ago when my wife and I smuggled in enough vodka to keep us nicely lubricated until we got to the first port, and went out and brought in more.

Make sure you go on any excursions you all schedule, like Jeep / ATV / Segue.

We like hitting the gym in the AM on non-port days, then drink around the pool jawing w people, dinner, gambling, shows, piano bar, band, nightclub.

You will have a good time. Get your mind right and make sure your brother has the time of his life.

AND...please provide us an update on your experience when you get back. I''m guessing you'll have a blast and we can post this thread whenever the OT gets in the Carnival-bashing mood.

…or this board. The “any line but Carnival” snobs get in a Carnival-bashing mood at least once/month over here, too.

If Gustavo is in the Lido Bar (piano bar), you'll have a great time!

We got back Saturday. Sailed out Monday. I'll admit...I had a good time.

This was us almost to a T. I made a joke that our group of 12 may have done different things throughout the day but all roads led back to that damn nightclub or the late night pizza shop

Didn't opt for the drink package but looking at my final bill I wouldn't have reached the $400+ to make it worth it. I was able to sneak some booze on and drank a good bit at the ports. Also helped on those port days that my brother's friends who did spring for the drink package weren't using their cards much those days

Food was hit or miss. The formal dinners were nice and we did go to the steakhouse one night. That was really good. The buffet and regular food options were Applebees quality. The sit down brunch was also really good.

My "floating Wal-Mart" comment was about 70% accurate. Ship was packed with a "variety" of people. But we made some friends and was able to talk to a few other bachelor and bachelorette groups. I agree that Carnival is likely the best spot for a bachelor party cruise. I can't see some of the wild shite we saw happening on the more sophisticated ones.

All in all - yes I/we had a blast. I learned it's hard not to have a good time on one of these things especially if you're with a large group like we were. Made some good memories that's for sure.
