My entire family with parents and siblings and all our kids want to do a Dude ranch trip this summer

Kids will range from 3-12

Any suggestions?

ETA:

I would think the budget without travel expenses included would be 15-20k for the 12 of us

6 of those 12 would be kids so I think that would help somewhat on price

We had Wyoming/Montana/ Colorado in mind and def want to stay on the ranch

Budgets going to be very important, I’d list that. As well as you general location you plan on going?

Are you definitely wanting to stay on an actual ranch or just looking to do all of those activities?

If you want, IMO, the top ranch check out Triangle X Ranch in Jackson. Almost 100 years running now in the same family. I've only hunted with them but have been on the ranch many times and it's as good as I've seen. The Turner family are great people and really take care of you.

If you want closer to home and cheaper, check out the dude ranches in Bandera, TX.

I dated a girl in college whose family always went to 4UR ranch. It looks pretty nice.

Ditto. $10K for a week (6 nights) - I could go somewhere else on my bucket list for that price. But if I had the cash to burn, I'd go here for a month.

this has nothing to do with this thread other than the Dude Ranch thing reminded me of it

Me and a buddy were doing a backpack hunting trip in Gila Wilderness Area in NM. We got to the trailhead, and noticed a huge canvas tent set up, but didn't really think anything of it since we were hiking in 7 miles.

Anyways, we hike in and set up our camp, and the next day or so we are eating lunch and we hear a bunch of "Yeehaw!" and "Get 'em up!" yells coming down the trail.

As they approach our camp, we realize its a bunch of old dudes dressed as classic movie cowboys (red handkerchiefs, big chaps, etc) and one was dressed as Teddy Roosevelt.

They stop and talk with us and were very curious about what we were hunting (turkeys) and that we actually hiked that far. They were all a bunch of old friends from Chicago and do this cowboy "cosplay" every year. They asked us to take some pictures with them holding fake guns in the air and then they continued on their way.

The real guide was in the back. I'm sure he loves his job, but catering to a bunch of rich dudes pretending to be cowboys for a week seems like hell to me

My best friend, who has lived an interesting and varied life, was a big horn sheep spotter/guide for a rich man's outfit in Idaho. He'd basically live out in the backcountry for a week at a time, on his own, tracking a sheep herd. When the client arrived, my friend would radio in his (and the herd's) location, and the outfitter would fly the client out in an ultralight to "hunt" the sheep. Don't get me wrong, the client would still have to hike and overnight, but my buddy would have been tracking the herd for a week at this point. Then, they'd fly in and shoot the sheep then fly back out.

Highly recommend Latigo Ranch near Steamboat. It’s been a few years but we went there a couple of times when my son was young. Beautiful setting. Lots to do . Great people
