Eat some shawarmas and check out the souks

It's illegal to drink or be under the influence in public. I realize that it's unlikely anything would happen, but why risk it?

I think the most likely scenario would be getting caught up in something else, that may or may not have been your fault, and them tacking on some serious penalties for the drinking. I should be back there soon, but hope to not find out any real answers on this.

I am going to Dubai and Abu Dhabi the last week in March. Looking forward to it.

True story... our driver cussed like a sailor, bought us several drinks and hung out with us at dinner... he was one of the few drivers that actually hung out with his riders.

As we got to know him a bit, I asked him if he was Emirate and he said yes, but I'm a hooligan Arab. He actually used the word hooligan -- but with his accent, I wasn't sure what he meant, so I asked him.

He said, "hooligan. hoo-li-gan, you know, someone that doesn't work very hard, smokes too much, drinks too much, and chases too much pussy." I told him, "hell, we could be kin-folk!"
