Assuming you're coming from San Simeon so you're already familiar with the central coast?

Assuming you’re going through Bakersfield and Barstow, that’s a pretty desolate drive.

Not familiar with the central Cal area. Heading from San Fransico to the Hearst Castle in San Simeon then on to Vegas. PCH seems to be closed near Los Angles so looking for another route east to Vegas. Thank you for your responses.

"desolate" is an understatement

Heading to Vegas to see The Eagles in the Sphere later in the week so I have to move on from California.

As mentioned lots of good stops along the coast. Cayucos is a cool beach side town that hasn't been mentioned yet. Lots of good wineries in Santa Ynez and you can hop tasting rooms in Los Olivos. You could also stop in Solvang for something different but it's not my favorite. Santa Barbara of course. Joshua Tree is really cool to spend a night in an airbnb if you havent been before
