Driving from Auburn to Galveston tomorrow, looking for advice on a place to stop

Leaving tomorrow around 11am. Not planning on driving all the way tomorrow, but would like to stop about 1-2 hours away hopefully. Any good place to stop in Beaumont? Swing by Lake Charles instead? Drive closer to Houston? Just want a clean safe place to stay. Our boarding time for our Disney Cruise is 11am so I don't want too big of a drive in the morning.

Stay at one of the casino hotels there (Laberge or Golden Nugget). You can likely get a good deal mid week. You don't want to stay in Beaumont.

Looks like you'll get to enjoy baton rouge rush hour traffic around 5pm based on your current plan. I'd probably try to make it to Houston at least so your drive before the cruise is not long. Lake Charles to Galveston is gonna be about 3 hours, which I wouldn't risk on the cruise morning

If you make it that far, you might as well skip Lake Charles and go the rest of the way.
You could stop at Lauberge Casino in Baton Rouge instead if you come through that way or find a bed and breakfast in Lafayette.

Bates house of Turkey for lunch day 1. Fezzos in Scott while you are in Louisiana

Hell, you'd almost be better taking I20 to Monroe, then US165 down.

Lake Charles to Galveston will take you a solid 3 hours, even without Houston AM rush hour traffic.
My suggestion, stay in Winnie at a hotel by the interstate. In the morning, drive a bit west to Baytown, then take 146 South until it drops you off on I45 on the mainland side of the Galveston causeway. You will completely avoid Houston morning rush hour. And 146 is a pleasant, scenic drive through Kemah and along the Bay. Cross the causeway, get off on harborside, and drive straight to cruise parking.
Beaumont would be ok too. It would add an extra 30-40 minutes in the morning.

I did something similar when we did our Disney Cruise. Left Birmingham after work, and the plan was to drive until I didn't feel like it anymore. We were going out of Port Canaveral. We hadn't planned anywhere to stay. Just figured I could pull off the interstate anywhere. I should have stopped in south Georgia. Once I hit the Florida line, the first city I came to was Lake City. I felt fine so I kept on. There was hardly anything between there and Jacksonville. But I was crashing pretty hard and overpaid for some janky hotel in the middle of nowhere.
Good call on leaving around lunch.

I'd go with this, winnie to galveston is 1 1/2 hours so that seems reasonable for your friday morning drive. Just checked hotels and the days inn is $71 for 2 queens, holiday inn is about $105 for a suite

OP is in for a world of hurt trying to cross the bridge tomorrow at 5pm then deal with the basin + construction in laffy. Luckily I don't see any rain in tomorrow's forecast or else itd be even worse

I've been fearing Baton Rouge traffic. Going to be smack in the middle of rush hour when we hit. I know how often I see i10 in BR mentioned over the years on the OT. Not sure there is any way around it as we're already getting hit with 3 unexcused absences to go on this trip. Leaving at 11 and we skip a 4th. How big of a difference will a couple of hours make? 2-3pm instead of 4-5pm?
Just noticed there is a Ferry going from Port Bolivar to Galveston. I've never been on a Ferry. Could be a cool thing to do with the family. Seems like a straight shot down from Winnie then down the coast.

This is our 4th. The wife likes to do them. We've always left out of Port Canaveral but she is wanting to sail on all 4 boats Disney owns so we have to go out of Galveston this time. We had a blow out on our pull behind smoker going from Auburn to Daytona for the Rolex one year. Blew out in that stretch of road with nothing on it between Lake City and Jacksonville at around 10pm at night.

I excluded the ferry intentionally. Too unpredictable if you're on a tight schedule, IMO. Lots of morning traffic on it going to work at UTMB.
Take it on your way home. Kids will enjoy it.

Not a problem. Our boarding time is 11:00 but the cruise boat itself doesn't leave till 5 I think.

Grab some steamed or smoked boudin links right off the interstate in Scott, La. It'll take you 10 minutes and it'll be the best tasting thing you'll eat on your trip.

Might be just the ticket on the way home. Looks like there are several right off the interestate that have good reviews. Any suggestions on which one to choose?

Billy's for the boudin balls and boudin eggrolls.
But you'll get different opinions on that I think. Search old food board threads for best boudin. It's all in the same area, mostly.

Billy's. Get the boudin links. The fried boudin balls and such are too much. It's not necessary.

I would stop in Montgomery, turn around and head back to Auburn.
