Ironing out our Italy trip for this summer and we are thinking about finishing things in the Dolomites. Any of you guys have recommendations on what to see and where to stay. We want to immerse our selves in a village, relax, and maybe do a few hikes to some scenic place.

From some Reddit searches it looks like Ortisei is a good location to at least see Seceda. Thoughts?

Not sure your age or interests but I’d highly recommend doing canyoning. Absolutely incredible. My wife and I stayed in lake garda and did it there.

We went to lake garda because it’s in between Venice and Munich. The drive through the Alps is incredible.

Tons of great biking, hiking, etc

You may want to check out the Hotel De La Poste in Cortina d'Ampezzo. We didn't stay there but we did have lunch in the restaurant. If you want to immerse yourself in a picturesque village in the Italian Dolomites, this may be the place. We went to nearby Lake Misurina which was beautiful. It is a short drive to the spectacular scenery.

Awesome. Thanks for the responses. I’ll definitely look into the canyoning idea and that hotel in Cortina looks amazing.

You will be immersed in some of the greatest scenery in the world. If You have a car, I recommend that you drive the Grossglockner High Alpine road.

Thought the scenery post was gonna be a link to Instagram pics of hot women in that location.
Kinda remembered it was the travel board, and not the OT. But I clicked on it anyway.

I’m not sure where all you are going but Verona has either the 2nd or 3rd largest Roman Coloseum still standing so that may be worth a stop. We psrked really close by and there’s a nice downtown area with shops there next to it for a good half day of activities.

The arena in Verona pre-dates the Colosseum in Rome. All but a small portion of the outer ring has fallen. It is still in use.

We stayed in Ortisei- Val Gardena and hiked the high mountain meadow above the town. Unbelievable. Small towns that are ski towns in the winter.
You get the Italian and the Austrian vibe and the towns are served by a bus system.
Easy to get to from Verona and Lake Garda on the road to the Brenner Pass. I think it took us about 2 hours from Sirmione on Lake Garda.

We had a campervan we rented and stayed at a campground just west of town.( Albergo Ponitives). BTW the food their was home cooked and very good. We took the bus into the town. There looked to be really nice hotels in the town. The Cavalino Spa Grand Hotel looked to be top notch and was right in the center of everything.
If you want a really cool place to stay I would recommend finding a spot up on the Alp di Suisi. This is the high mountain meadows where these photos were taken. We hiked the entire day and went from one Inn to the next getting drinks and food. The entire meadows are hiking in the summer time and gentle ski slopes in the winter. You can park in town and take the gondola up. I am sure they also have shuttles up to the hotels. They have horses and other animals grazing and you hike through all of the farms. If you go during the summers you hike up to the different peaks also for a grand view.

Yuotube video of downtown Ortisei
Found this video, beautiful place. The bus stops in the center of the plaza shown in the video and travels through out the valley.

If you had a camper van why did you ride the bus so much? I’m all about public transportation when it makes sense but the alps it really doesn’t, so much faster and easier to have your own vehicle for the most part.

We rode from the campground into some towns, as a lot of the towns don’t allow traffic in the downtown areas. ZTL’s is what they call them.
Most of the camping areas were walking distance so we would walk in. In Ortisei it was about 2 miles so we rode the bus. We stayed seventeen days throughout the country.
It was a great way to combine transportation, lodging and having the independence to go at whatever pace we wanted Not having to pack and unpack for the entire trip was also worth it.
