re: Do You Run to Make Traveling Connections?

Delta's system knows which passengers have a connecting flight that is getting cut close and the attendants announce it and make everyone sit down and let those passengers deboard first. That's helpful.
And because I exclusively flew Delta in my business travel days, and being based in ATL, I rarely had connecting flights, it was always non-stop.

United has a "Connection Saver" feature where they'll hold an aircraft and take a slight delay when you're at risk of missing a connection. Already saved me once this year.
Moving from DFW to AUS really limited my non-stops, especially since I moved all my flying to Delta/United.

I have most certainly run, but rarely is there a scenario that calls for it. And as for running, I've been on both sides. Arrived right after the door was shut and arrived right before.

Depends where I'm going and what I'm doing, and who's nickel I'm on.
But in short there is a good chance I will trot at least, if not jog. I'm fortunate to have a job that pays me to go interesting places and I don't want to waste time in the airport waiting 4-8 hours for the next ride. I've spent so much time at ATL and DFW killing time on instagram or eating fast food and it gets real old.

I absolutely hauled arse across DFW Terminal E or D the other day because i had 8 minutes to catch my connection to ellick. The next flight was full and didn’t get there till almost 11 pm. I was praying the flight was slightly delayed. Well, i get to the gate, everyone is waiting, and the only reason they haven’t started boarding is that the flight attendant was delayed on another flight. Ended up being delayed almost 2 hours I was like “well damn.”

It depends. If I'm in a major hub with flights leaving to my destination every hour, then a solid power walk will do.
If the next plane/train/ferry is fricking tomorrow, you can bet your arse that I'm booking it
As a follow up, my most recent instance of hauling arse:
End of a trip to Greece, plan is to fly out of Milos to Athens, stay the night in Athens, then fly out of Athens first fricking thing the next morning.
Then the flight out of Milos got cancelled due to high winds right as boarding was supposed to begin. Next flight was leaving the next morning... at the same time our flight was supposed to leave Athens. And to make things more fun, the little podunk airline flying out of Milos obviously wasn't the same as the major airline we used to fly in and out, so any rescheduling would have to be done on our effort and dime. Oh, and all of the ferries back to Athens that day were already booked up.
But, the airport employees told us that if you go directly to the dock and pay at the office, they will sometimes let you squeeze on even when the ferries are "full". But, if we went that route, the airport wasn't providing transportation beyond dropping us off at the harbor. Made the split second call to say frick it, take us to the harbor and we'll deal with it from there.
Ran from the car to the office, spit out what we needed and why, and we were told they would sell us a ticket for the last ferry out, but we would need to run, as it leaves in five minutes. Swiped the card, grabbed the tickets, and ran a solid quarter mile from the office to the dock to get on the ferry as they were getting ready to shut the doors.
Was something like a seven hour ferry ride, got into Athens at about 1am, slept for like two hours before having to get up and jump in a cab to ride out to the airport.
But we made that fricking flight

Ok to be casual if it’s domestic and you know that there’s another outgoing flight within a couple of hours.
If it’s a positioning flight that’s delayed and you may miss the international trip that only has one ( maybe two) per day? I’m hauling arse!

quote:last year because a 1 hour and 45 minute connection was cut to 10 minutes. I made it out of breath and sat down next to a lady in a mask. She may have not been pleased but I made it to my child who was putting their dog down the next day and would have had to do it alone. Last flight out and an AM flight would not have made it before the appt. I regret nothing.
absolutely hauled arse across Ohare
Only other time I ever remember running was last flight on a Friday night going home and I was not getting stuck in Memphis overnight when I just wanted to get home.

The last time I ran to make a connection was over 10 years when delays caused us to get in ATL with 30 minutes to spare before our flight to Rome. That was an insane, full-on sprint. I was sucking air and sweating profusely, but I made it.
