Kids (19,11,7) and I are going out West for a Summer vacation this year.
Tentative iten is to fly into and out of Denver. Looking at 8 nights to get this done.
Fri- Fly MSY to DEN arrive in Denver at 11 AM
Fri - Drive from Denver to Estes Park
Fri-Sun - RMNP in the day and see the sights in town that nice
Mon-Tues Jackson Hole
Tues night - drive to Yellowstone
Weds-Fri - Yellowstone
Saturday - Back to Denver
Is this too ambitious for the time allotted?
Also, what should I do for lodging. Has anyone rented an RV? My fear is that it will be a pain navigating Yellowstone in a 32' RV that I only have a few days experience driving.
Would it be easier to just get hotels for each location?
I am a total noob to this type of vacation. Any input from anyone? Things to watch out for?

thats a long drive from jackson/YS to denver; we stopped for the night in saratoga WY. three days in YS might not be enough. definitely rent a car and stay in the park lodging vs an RV

Thanks, yes that drive back will be a beast.

That’s a lot of driving. I would spend 8 days in Colorado or 8 in Wyoming. Not split between the two.

With those ages I would do Jackson/Grand Tetons/Yellowstone. You will not see it all in 8 days.
Will be a great trip.

Thanks Cash. We were leaning that way it’s just so damn cheap to fly into CO.

Flight into Jackson is expensive b cause it’s worth it.

8 days was not enough for Jackson/Yellowstone because you lose a day for travel both ways basically.
I’d follow suggestion of just doing those 2 and hit RMNP on a different trip. All 3 are worth the trip(Tetons, Yellowstone and RMNP) and IMO you could spend a week at any of the 3.

What are you looking to do at each place? Are yall active or are you just wanting to drive through and just see the sights?
It is a doable trip if you want to just see and not really do.
You could do Friday afternoon and evening in Estes, although I would highly recommend you stop in Boulder or Lyons and allow your body to acclimate to altitude.
Get up Saturday and hit the east side of RMNP and stay in Estes. Sunday drive through the park over to Grand Lake then start making your way to Jackson. You'll go through Steamboat and Baggs then perhaps spend the night in Pinedale.
Monday get up early and watch the sun rise on the Wind River Range on the way to Jackson. Have breakfast in Jackson then head into Tetons for the day.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday check out Yellowstone. It's all awesome.
Friday you could see some more of Tetons then start back towards Denver. I would drive out the east side of the park through Dubois or if you stayed in Yellowstone drive out towards Cody, both are awesome.
You wont see it all in a week and will need to go back but you should go!
Now if you wanna do stuff you need at least a week in each park.

If you have ever been interested in an RV trip, that’s one of the best places to do it. Don’t worry about driving the RV, tons do it every year through Yellowstone.
I’d fly into SLC, it’s 6 hours from Yellowstone. Denver is a haul.
Hotels are $200-250 anywhere within 50 miles of the park even for like motel 8s OP. You don’t have to stay in the RV every night. I would just stay there for like 2 nights, then get a hotel, rinse and repeat.
With driving from Denver or SLC adding basically 2 days, I would not do anything outside of Jackson Hole/ Tetons and Yellowstone. 3 days for each is a good amount. You can add some small towns and activities easily in there to fill your time, but plenty of things to do especially to give you time to relax and enjoy the scenery and not be rushed to be on the move constantly.

SLC to Jackson is about 5 hours. Denver is 8 hours. No clue what the difference in flight costs works out to but it’s 3 hours difference in drive time.

for the past three years my vacations have been western road trips to national parks/etc, and we really enjoy being on the road and having the chance to see as many different things as we can, from ground level
but we have a couple of rules:
1) no driving legs over 6 hours
2) no driving at night
3) no leaving at the crack of dawn
that keeps the driving part of it relaxing & fun and not a chore, which defeats the "vacation" part of the endeavor

If you’re trying to lump a couple of parks together, I’d do Yellowstone and glacier before RMNP and Yellowstone. I do think you’d have a more relaxing vacation if you just did Jackson/Tetons and Yellowstone.
