Delta announced 3 new routes from Austin today along with an increase in frequencies on 2 more. The airline is going to add flights from Austin to Nashville, McAllen, TX, and Midland/Odessa, TX all of which will fly 3x daily.

Seems like an odd add and way too much capacity for Midland and McAllen.

They'll also bump Austin-Raleigh to 3x daily and move Austin-Cincinnati to 2x daily.

Seems like a waste of capacity. Did it say the dates this starts? Should be using these planes for ski season flights to Grand Junction, Aspen, Vail, spring time Florida flights or Cancun, etc...

New routes start on April 22nd, so they'll have the CR9's through the winter season before dumping them in AUS

Delta is touting all of this demand but American just took the axe to most of their routes and Delta partner Virgin Atlantic pulled out entirely. Going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

The University of Texas has an unstable funding partner in the State of Texas, given the politics of the state, making it challenging to predict their ongoing investment in the local ecosystem.

The TX legislature passed $700 million dollars in additional funding for the State's public universities. On top of that, even more money specifically for microchips.

What the frick is this guy talking about?

From TX Tribune:

In addition to the $700 million, the state invested more than $650 million this year in community colleges as part of an agreement to start funding these schools based on student outcomes. Four public universities will benefit from a new $3 billion endowment created to help them expand their research activities. The state’s two flagship universities in Austin and College Station got nearly $700 million to invest in facilities that research and develop microchips.

This article is building a trend on a ridiculously small sample. The first example cited left his company to stay in Austin. Others mentioned seemed suspect to use - a POC who’s frustrated with Texas, a person under thirty who moved back to CA. I have no dog in this fight, but this was a very poorly sourced and researched article to use arguing for a trend.

The Midland/Odessa route is because of all of the oil business out there.

I'm sure there are enough oil baws living in Austin who work in Midland to make it work though it really isn't that far of a drive

Tickets are about $49 each way, so I booked trips to both.

Looks like American Airlines is canceling 5 more routes from AUS.

Now 27 nonstop routes from AUS have been canceled since November.
