Living in Dallas for the summer, north east side of the city. Never been before and have no idea what to do. Looking for recommendations of anything to do for fun there, places to go/see, places to eat, etc

Thanks

Pretty simple. Start at Katy Trail Ice House on your first day. Find and engage females. Follow their lead the rest of the summer.

This.

And also Braindead Brewing is a great spot in Deep Ellum. My buddy from high school in Htown is a partner and cicerone there. They're killing it and pull great crowds as well. Tons of tail there on the weekends just like Katy Trail Icehouse.

Hopefully inside LBJ (635). There is tons to do here but my favorite quote about Dallas is "Nice place to live but I wouldn't want to visit there".....not many destination sites/ activities in dallas that you just have to see or do. But there are a lot of good things you come to appreciate when you live here.

The big bar/restaurant areas are:

Lower Greenville- It has been transformed in the last 3-4 years and is really crowded with people walking around now. My favs are Single Wide (dive bar), Truck Yard (big outdoor patio area),Rapscallion (great food-a bit pricey), Libertine (pub w/ good food), Teppo (great sushi place, small and laid back), Good Records for vinyl.
A little further up Greenville ave. is another area of bars/ restaurants (there are 3 different sections of stuff along Greenville) Dubliner (dive bar).

Henderson Ave- Just a stones throw over from Greenville ave.- Bunch of stuff but Captitol Pub and Louie's (dive bar w/ great thin crust pizza) are the only places I hit. The original Barcadia is there too. Old Monk is a good pub too but I haven't been there in a few years.

Deep Ellum- Live music places like Three Links, Club Dada, Trees, Prophet Bar and Bomb Factory. Then Pecan Lodge which is a great barbecue place, Angry Dog (best burger in Dallas), Brain Dead Brewing brew pub, Dots Hop House (craft beer with a huge courtyard)

Uptown (Mckinney Ave area)- Full of the type of people who give Dallas its rep as being pretentious....but its a young crowd and lots of singles. I rarely go over there but Katy Trail Ice House (Katy Trail is a walking trail that goes 3 or 4 miles from American Airlines area to SMU area....great for going for a jog and checking out all the hot uptown girls out there walking/jogging, Gingerman (craft beer in an old house), Common Table (craft beer/good food).

Bishop Arts- Over in north Oak Cliff- Cool area with restaurants/bars- I like going to Eno's Pizza for beer (pizza is ok), Wild Detective is a book store/ beer place in an old house that is good if you want a chill place to read/ post on the drop. They have a nice outdoor area. Nova is down the street about a half mile and has good food, Kessler Theater is a good live music venue.

For bicycle riding, White Rock Lake is in east dallas and has a 9 mile loop, good for jogging/ kayaking too.

Uptown

Hotel ZaZa- upscale with the cocaine & silicone crowd
Rattlesnake Bar at the Ritz(very close to ZaZa)- older crowd, cougars galore, rich men
Trulucks(across the street from ZaZa)-older crowd, upscale
Fat Rabbit/ Masque/Social House-clubby, younger crowd
Idle Rich Pub/Black Friar-Laid back beer bars
Tate’s-upscale cocktail lounge
Concrete Cowboy/Clutch/Kung Fu Saloon- Young wild crowd, douche & sloots galore.
Del Frisco’s & Del Frisco's Grill-great foot & drinks
Quarter Bar/So & So’s/Cliff’s-laid back beer bars
Citizen-hotness with tons of douche
Katy Trail Ice House-great beer & patio bar. Insane amount of hotness here. The only problem is it only plays Texas country music. Deal with it for the talent there.

Victory Park(Near the AAC where the Mavs & Stars play)

Happiest Hour-huge new place. Very nice. Sloots galore
House of Blues

Lower Henderson Avenue

Victor Tangos-upscale cocktail bar
Old Monk-laid back beer bar

Upper Henderson
Capital Pub-laid back beer bar
Skeelig-laid back beer bar
Henderson Tap House-upscale sports bar
The Eberhard-Upscale club-packed with hotness
Barcadia-old school arcade games & beer
Beauty Bar-Hipsters
High Fives-laid back beer & cocktail bar
Whippersnapper-late night beer & cocktail bar

Greenville Avenue
Dodies Reef-Louisiana themed bar & restaurant.
THE place to watch Saints & LSU games in Dallas.
The Truck Yard-very laid back, hipsters, craft beers & food trucks. The kind of place where I can wear a Motorhead t-shirt & get complimented.
HG Supply-good food & drinks, best rooftop patio in the city. You must go here if you go anywhere on Greenville Avenue
Blind Butcher-good food, laid back

I think the MSU group in Dallas had their watch parties at either spot, need to get back out again.

I'm most likely going to be staying at a place near White Rock Lake that the company recommended to me. That a decent area? They made it sound nice but I haven't seen it for myself obviously

FYI I'll be there 10-12 weeks so I'll have a lot of time to go do all of the stuff y'all are recommending

You'll be closest to Greenville and Henderson. Both pretty cool areas for mid 20s and up. Uptown is the stereotypical spoiled rich SMU kids area.

We usually stick to Greenville. HG Sply has the absolute best rooftop. Awesome view of downtown, tons of seating, and a big bar. HG means hunter/gatherer, so while they aren't 100% paleo, it's close. Great food, but can get pricey. Libertine is a nice pub, but can get packed since it's not too big. Blind Butcher has awesome poutine and house made sausages. It's pretty small too, so it gets packed.

If you go downtown, one eyed penguin is a pretty cool bar. Bartenders are super friendly and it's definitely a place where they'll know your name if you go a few times. Zenna has decent sushi, but they're open until like 3 AM so it's a good drunk food spot.

Deep ellum, definitely try to see a show at trees or club dada. Both are pretty intimate venues with some good acts of all genres that come through. Skip deep ellum brewery and hit the others. Zappa can give you better recs on that front.

As for the suburbs, Plano has the shops at legacy which is horny milf central. Downtown McKinney is that old town Main Street feeling downtown with the courthouse in the middle of the square. Landon winery has a tasting room there with great wine. Square burger has tons of beer on tap and some really good burgers. The celt is a nice Irish pub down there as well.

I've been in Dallas a little over 2 years. The nightlife and food are awesome. There are some cool museums as well.

I live in uptown, but I'm not a big fan of going out in uptown. Too crowded. It's the typical pretentious Dallas that everyone thinks of. Katy Trail Icehouse is a great weekend afternoon bar. I really like Gingerman too. They have a ton of beers on tap, darts, and a big outside area. Uptown has a lot of good brunch spots as well.

Lower Greenville is awesome. The Truck Yard has the best cheesesteak I've ever eaten (I've had Pats and Genos in Philly, and they both suck). There are great restaurants and everything is easy to walk around between. It's also close to Knox-Henderson if you want to catch a short Uber/Lyft over there. More restaurants and bars.

I don't go to Deep Ellum often enough. Someone mentioned Braindead Brewing. Definitely a must see. The Bomb Factory is a really awesome concert venue there in Deep Ellum.

Bishop Arts is an area I really want to start going to more. I had some BBQ at Lockhart Smokehouse a few weeks ago. Probably the best food I've had in Dallas. Definitely a top 3 BBQ of all time for me. You won't regret waiting in line for it. There are some neat bars here too.

The Sixth Floor Museum is all about the JFK assassination. Fascinating museum. It goes through the political climate at the time and how Dallas felt about JFK (the southern Democrats were not fans of his). It also talks about the various conspiracy theories. The museum itself is in the building he was shot from. You can see the actual spot on the street he died at and the window Oswald was sitting in.

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is pretty cool. I went there a few weeks ago for the first time. It's basically a Physics textbook laid out into various exhibits. It's a neat museum that takes 2-3 hours to walk through. Good for a rainy day. Get there early.

Dallas Sports - FC Dallas and the Texas Rangers will be playing all summer. I had never been to an MLS game until I moved here. The FC Dallas games are actually pretty fun. There is a small tailgate scene. The supporters section gets pretty into it, even though they are small, it's a fun time. Tickets are only about $25.
