Thinking of trip to Croatia in June for wife and I. Probably stay in Split and Dubrovnik for a couple of days each. Anyone have experience with the area? Any experience with day trips from either city.

Been twice. Much I didn't get to see!

BUT..

On our own...

Opatija and Plitvice National Park was where we went. Drove from Venice Italy to tour the country. Both are both well worth visiting.

Opatija is a beautiful town on the Adriatic with a great waterfront walk, old hotels, cafés, and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view.

Plitvice is completely different. The lakes and waterfalls are even better in person than they look in pictures, and the walkways take you right through the park. One of the most amazing places you'd ever see.

Two very different places, but both were highlights of our trip to Croatia.

Selected Photos

In March we did a Viking cruise and did one day stops...

We visited Krka National Park and Dubrovnik, and both were highlights of Croatia.

Krka is beautiful, with waterfalls, walking paths, and plenty of great scenery without feeling too difficult to explore.

Dubrovnik is one of those places that really lives up to the pictures. The old city, stone streets, walls, and views over the Adriatic make it a place you won’t forget. Gets VERY crowded though, so time of year is crucial. It was manageable for us in March.

Very different experiences, but both are well worth visiting.

Go to Hvar from Split. Short ferry ride and really cool place. We stayed there for a few nights. We rented a boat and island hopped all around and some beautiful places/water. Enjoyed Dubrovnik but I would spend less time there.

My family started our Croatia trip in Dubrovnik and ended it in Split.

We took a day trip to Kotor and Perast, Montenegro from Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik deserves 2 or 3 days to see all churches, bars, walk the wall, go up to Mt. Srd, and see Lokrum Island.

We then ferried to Hvar from Dubrovnik.. Spent 3 days in Hvar. Took a day trip to Stari Grad while in Hvar. We then took a private charter to Vis and spent 2 days there. Ferried from Vis to Split.

Trogir was a great day trip from Split. Split deserves 3 days to see it thoroughly.

Agree with all of this.

Dubrovnik is awesome but be prepared for wall to wall tourists. It's one of those places that has become too popular for its small size . If you do go try to have a drink at Buza Bar that's built into the side of a cliff overlooking the water. Lake Plitvice is awesome and another great island to visit is Korcula.
