Going skiing in February in Crested Butte. Is it better to stay in the town or the village? I know if in the town we will have to drive to the mountain everyday but wanted to see if one is better than the other?

We always stay in the village and drive to town at night to eat. Ski early! Grande Lodge has been nice but $$. Less to stay in town but ski in/ski out is very nice.

We stayed in the town and rode the free shuttle everyday to the mountain, we were only about a 5 minute walk to the bus stop. They have a ski valet and lockers at the base of the mountain so there is no need to carry your stuff back and forth each day on the shuttle. Just about all the dining options are walking distance within the town, same goes for the grocery store. I have never stayed in the village but some family that were with us have and they said they preferred the town.

Definitely stay in town if you can swing it; CB is one of the best mountain towns I’ve visited. Free shuttle is super easy to the mountain. At a very minimum, make sure you head to the Secret Stash for some pie after a long day.

It depends. You have to make the drive back and forth one way or another. If you have a group of people that don’t ski together, on-mountain works great. If it’s a small group that sticks together, stay in town. The town is great with cool housing options. For on-mountain, I recommend San Moritz.

Warning: If you need groceries, make sure you stop in Gunnison. CB has no grocery store in the typical sense.

I find it easier to stay at the mountain and take the bus down to the village for the evenings.

We always stay at at house about halfway to the mountain (about 10 min drive from both because it is off the road). I’d definitely stay in town if I were you. Secret stash, wooden nickel, elk prime, public house, montanya distillery, the dogwood are all places worth checking out

We’ve been to CB twice, both times in the summer so I can’t speak to the ski season.

I will agree that CB is one of the best mountain towns in CO. Quaint downtown and everything is walkable.

Stop in the local bars and ask for a “Novak Special”. It’s a PBR and a shot of Jim Beam for $5. There was a local guy named Novak that died in an avalanche a few years back and that was his drink. Should be able to get it almost anywhere.

My wife and I now get PBRs and Jim Beam shots on nights out now in any city we find ourselves in. We love CB!
