I booked a "fully refundable" ticket with American as backup. When is the deadline I would have to cancel by and still get my refund?
Great question. I think it's up until the flight leaves but I aim for at least an hour before that. By that point hopefully you've made up your mind on how things are going day of. Also gives you time to make sure you have internet access, cancel the ticket, get the confirmation email, etc.

So when my Richmond to ATL flight got cancelled I ran up to the airport to tell them not to cancel my second leg. They did that and then I grabbed a rental car. Had to go back to airport at 6am because my rental was a lemon that shook violently at 65mph.
Anyway, drove with a 4 and 1 year old from RIC to ATL. 10 hours later made it Flying home now. Miserable.
Guy said they'd pay for rental car. I'll be asking for RIC-ATL money back and early bird money that got removed (Plat credit anyway).

Perfect, my gf’s backup flight is scheduled to leave exact same time as her original SW flight. Thanks for everything you do!

Well the London flights on American not going so well. I blame myself a bit though for not working out a longer layover window. One hour for an international flight with all the chaos goin on was a recipe for disaster. Several hours before our aex-dfw leg I was getting emails about delays. Changed my flight to Lafayette to dfw and made the 1.5 hour drive over there . That flight (according to flight aware ) was also delayed bc the incoming flight had to change up his route to dodge some weather. We made it to dfw with just under 20 mins to make it to our London flight. Home alone’d our asses to the gate and sadly missed it by a couple mins. Of course the flight you always need to get delayed never does. American comp’d us a hotel/ cab/ and some meal vouchers and we’re set to leave today. Will miss one day of our trip which sucks but shite happens I guess. Hope the rest of y’all’s trips are going smoothly.
happy new years.

Thanks, I was able to get on the flight Tuesday am and got back to PHX.
I still can’t get over the ongoing nightmare for so many. Remember, SWA got 7 BILLION in covid relief.
