Thanks for all of the responses. It’s crazy how many different opinions and options there are.
Nightlife and being close to local restaurants / bars is an important requirement for us so we may look towards Curaçao, Antigua, Aruba, and St Maarten.
Please let me know if we are looking at the wrong spots for this.

I’d say St Lucia but I don’t think you’ll get the nightlife. I don’t care for St Maarten personally but that’s an option. Last one I’ll throw is Aruba.
I’d go St Lucia. Enjoy!

Curaçao
Does not have much of a nightlife.
I don’t think people noticed your budget. $5000 per couple (not per person) is not very much, so it probably wipes some of the trendier islands off your list. Look into Aruba.

Awesome. Just got back on Friday. Barely saw other touristas unless we went to a restaurant. What a great island.

with only 2 couples are yall looking for more privacy or more socially active environment all the time? if more privacy i'd use luxuryretreats.com. we have 5 couples leaving next week for Costa Rica using one of their bookings. all of them come with on site concierge, daily maid and and turn down service.
if more socially active get a nice adults only all inclusive. $5000 a couple should get your something nice. Does that 5K include flights?

do you just get on VRBO and find a house to rent?

it looks awesome... When baby #2 is done breastfeeding, I want to take a trip without the kids. We havent done that in 2.5 years since they were back to back and this would be badass.
Which island you like more between this and the other one? Were mosquitos that bad? Could you sit outside at night and keep drinking?

After all the feedback, we decided to up our budget so we do not have to settle.
How is Aruba as far as the beaches go?

We just do not want to be stuck in a secluded place. Would like to go to local bars, restaurants, and the ladies would like local shopping. $5K does include flights but we are open to increasing the budget for the right place.
I’ll check out Luxery Retreats.

I like Exuma vs. anguilla but it was because we had our own house vs. a resort.
Anguilla had better food. Mosquitoes were never bad. gnats would get bad at dusk and then move on.

Yes. we' go driving around crabbing.

I wouldn’t let the lack of nightlife choose where I go
All of these places are hoping during the day and even during dinner and sundown. All the bars will be filled
I’d rather go to a badass island and resort then a shitty island with a good nightlife
That’s why I love the Caymens. It’s not third world and all of it is first class. Had day trips all around the island and great restaurants and a downtown shopping area.

What he said and that's why I'd choose St. John or St. Barths or something on that level. There's a reason why the better islands don't have cheap accommodations.

Local shopping is sort of a myth on any Caribbean island. Everything sold on those islands is pretty much imported from some other place.
The smaller islands are less secluded than bigger resorts on larger islands, IMHO. You are sort of forced to travel around the island checking out different areas, beaches, etc...

Palm Island Resort
St Vincent and the Grenadines
Book through Priceline for best deal. I have been everywhere in the Caribbean and St John, the BVIs, and the Grenadines are tops. The Grenadines weren’t impacted by any hurricanes.

Had a general discussion with our group and we decided to rethink our whole trip.
Looks like we are now considering Isla Mujeres. I have only been there once on a cataraman for a day trip.
Any input besides what’s in the sticky thread?

St John is everything you are looking for....

Depends on what he means by nightlife.
Bottom line is if nightlife is a primary goal he should just go to Cabo.

We’ve covered Isla pretty thoroughly. Several of us go at least once a year.
