Looking for a nice hotel good food, beach etc. haven’t been to that area in a long time Plan would be to fly into Tampa and then drive. Also open to other areas in S Fl I appreciate any location / lodging recommendations

South Seas Resort on Captiva. Took the family there last year and absolutely loved it. Another family came along and they loved it also. We will be going back, Rented a boat for 2 days and had lunch at Cabbage Key Inn, and cruised around and anchored on Cayo Costa. Beautiful beaches, tons of shells, kids were picking up sand dollars, star fish, etc. A number of great restaurants on Captiva - Doc Fords, Mucky Duck and a few others. A carribean vibe with as opposed to the typical Destin black trip.

Loads of options up and down the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Gasparilla may be exactly what you are looking for and will be a little closer to Tampa. Heading there myself in a few weeks.

Live on Sanibel and would say its a really great place to hide out, but in that case would recommend flying into RSW. Have not stayed in any hotels on Sanibel, but there is a nice Marriott property right across the Causeway. South Seas is a nice resort at least externally and has a load of options. If you need a fishing captain, I got a guy. Pretty decent inshore fishing and he picks up from a marina on Captiva.

PS the food on Sanibel leaves a lot to be desired. Cielo, Gramma Dots, Doc Fords, and Mad Hatter are all pretty good. Trader IIs for lunch. But if you stick to steamed or boiled seafood can have decent luck or chicken wings.

Captiva restaurants are pretty awful but the Mucky Duck is a nice spot for a beer.

If you can at all fly into RSW. It will add at least a half a day to your vacation.

We stayed at the Sundial and enjoyed it but if we went back, we'd opt for the South Seas resort. Our room in the Sundial was enormous which helped for our kid situation. I thought the Madd Hatter was excellent but every other restaurant was meh but we really enjoyed Sanibel overall.

Went to Sanibel YEARS ago with parents. Nice place. We stayed at some Hilton cabanas but they may not be there any longer. The Thomas Edison house nearby is very interesting day trip.

There is also The Outlet that is also owned by the Gasparilla Inn. Also the Anchor Inn. This is old school Florida. No condos/high rises, about 4 restaurants, ride golf carts all over. Tucker Carlson, Brit Hume, Nick Saban, Dabo, Boston Scientific guy, Duluth Trading guy all have places on island. Also, great place to stay is Boca Grande Club, go to their website. You have to call- like I said old school. Or try Vrbo for a house.
