Going in the spring for a week with wife and boys. Want to catch as much natural beauty as possible. Not golfing or wine tasting. Flying into LA. Don’t care to see much there. What are top spots to see? Big Sur, Yosemite, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Sequoia Park, Mt Whitney, Lake Tahoe, John Muir? Flying out of San Fran, so will see that last. Trying to figure route to take. Is the whole Highway 1 coast drive from LA to SF worth the ride? First time out in that area and trying to get best bang for buck. Appreciate any advice

Don’t know how old your boys are but the Reagan Museum is worth the time.

Take PCH from LA to northern cal. Stop by Carmel by the sea, Monterey on the way. And then spend 2-3 in San Fran

The drive up the Pacific Coast Highway is definitely the way to go. It gets my vote for the most beautiful drive in the country. I have done all or part of that trip four times.

In addition to the places you mentioned there is also Solvang, San Simeon and Hearst Castle, Monterrey, and Carmel.
We like to finish in the Napa Valley.
Great trip

Hearst Castle or don't go. Also Reagan Library is worth the time.

Pismo Beach

Go to Splash Cafe for the chowder or Giuseppe’s for Italian.

Down in Grover Beach (just south of Pismo) there is a monarch butterfly sanctuary. I don’t remember the time of their migration but check it out. You also have the sand dunes there.

You’ll also be very close to San Luis Obispo which is a cool town.

Paso Robles is also pretty close for wineries.

Cayucos/Morro Bay is just up the road and there is also Los Osos for some outdoor fun.

As you work a little further north stop at Point Lobos for a hike. It isn’t too strenuous but there is signage warning you of mountain lions that have been seen. The views are spectacular and prime for some pictures.

Whale watching in Monterey out of Old Cannery Row is hit or miss. Humpbacks are the big draw but orcas and dolphins may show up too.

Phil’s in Moss Landing is a good seafood restaurant. It’s pricey but good, has beach access and there might be live music too.

Watsonville has a great stop for the family called Gizdich Farms. The pies and apple cider are excellent. You can also pick your own fruit which is just fun.

Santa Cruz has the Beach Boardwalk which is free to get into. It’s where they filmed The Lost Boys if that helps at all.

The Central Coast is just awesome for us in The Valley.

Yosemite is out of your way but worth the time if you spend more than a day

Muir Woods NM NPS Link is just North of SF

Wonderful for kids & adults.

Pick your time to visit due to traffic, you cross the Golden Gate Bridge to get there.
