Does anyone have experience there? I’m looking for a late summer mountain getaway and am leaning towards Bryson. Mainly looking to hike, relax, maybe see a few waterfalls. I’ve done Gatlinburg when I was a kid but haven’t been back since. From what I’ve read it seems like that part of TN has become a trashy tourist trap area.

Is Bryson a good option?

It’s nice. Definitely not like Gatlinburg. Rafting if you’re in to that. The Smokey Mtn Railroad is kinda neat, especially if you have kids. Avoid Cherokee and Maggie Valley, as they are pretty touristy.

Creekside cabins there is awesome. BC is my favorite spot out there. People who run the cabins have great recommendations.

I was just a kid when we used to camp at Bryson City but I remember we all used to tube down a pretty awesome river with lots of falls.

Bryson City is ok. It's a few steps above Gatlinburg in trashiness. Just more of an average town for this area.
