Main thing to consider is there are 2 general areas, East, and South.

I recently did South and recommend where we went. It was a balance between small 3barrel batch places, and monsters like Heaven Hill. Here is my list from the food and drink board: LINK

A buddy and I are going in May. We're spending 3 days and have BT, OF, WR, HH, JB, 4R and Makers planned. We planned it out ourselves, can't wait to go.

I'll second that. That distillery and the drive in are beautiful.

Castle and Key is a little off the radar for most people, but they took over the old EH Taylor place about 10 years ago. It's a pretty cool place.

Buffalo Trace is a monster, but they have pretty informative tours.

I'd highly recommend getting a driver since you can have pretty good drives between distilleries. If you're with a group, it's not that expensive and you can load into a sprinter type van. The drivers are usually very informative too.

We did Buffalo Trace, 4 Roses, and Woodford. Drove down the street from woodford to The Stave, a nice little eatery. From there eased down to Castle and Key. It was a great time.

Went last summer and split time between Louisville and Lexington. From Louisville we drove out for the Makers tour and walked Beam, Four Roses grounds. I would recommend Rabbit Hole in downtown Louisville if you can get in. We also saw the barrels being made at Kentucky Cooperage. From Lexington we did the tours at Buffalo trace and Woodford and walked the grounds at Castle and Key.

The tours have little things that make them unique but all show the grounds, rick houses and give a bit of history. All of the tastings are about the same. At Makers you can dip your own bottle.
