I have been to Frenchie but I knew to call for the reservation the first day they became available. It is worth the effort. Excellent food in a cool part of town.

La Jocobine
In 2019 I went to La Jocobine based on recommendations from this board. I have started in that neighborhood several times prior to that and passed it all the time but had never been there. We enjoyed it very much. Other favorite hangouts within a few blocks from there are Fish La Blosseris (sp). Freddie’s Wine Bar. And Boutary. My wife got hooked on caviar at Boutary. Not good for my bank account. I had to tell her that was not peanut butter they were serving on those pearl spoons.

Our favorite gourmet bistro in that neighborhood is LeChristine on the street of the same name about a block from the river. Fantastic food and not that expensive.

Frenchie
Great place. Delicious food in a cool neighborhood. We knew to make reservations the first day they became available and we made them. Glad we did.

Sorry about the double post about Frenchie. I thought the first one didn’t go through.

Huiterie Regis - Oysters, prawns(sometimes), sea urchin (sometimes), white wine.

Chez Michel-quaint spot up near Montmartre. Normandy cuisine. Excellent.

Bistro Paul Bert.

Check out Le Fooding or read up on the Bistronomy movement. High quality food at affordable for paris prices.

Thanks again all. I am running under assumption that sticking to Google reviews we don't get a bad meal, but did want a few great ones.

I will post a trip report when we get back.

London
My favorite restaurant in London is Rules. The oldest restaurant in town. Beautiful place, delicious food and a great bar upstairs. On Maiden Lane near Covent Garden.

Scott’s in Mayfair is an excellent seafood restaurant.

7 years ago my wife and I and another couple went to a restaurant in Paris named Verjus. It was a top 10 restaurant there according to TripAdvisor in 2015. It was outstanding. They appear to be closed for remodeling, opening back up in May 2023.

I have been to Verjus and it is excellent. Everyone gets the set tasting menu. It is right across the Palais Royal courtyard from LeGrand Vefour that I recommend above.

Just wondering why Tour d’Argent has not been mentioned in this thread. Over priced/overrated?

It’s a super famous old school place, and from what I understand it’s great, but I haven’t been to it.

La Tour D'Argent
Never been to that one but they are famous for two things - pressed duck and the view of the back of Notre Dame. They have so good of a view they pay for the floodlights.

To advance the discussion about traditional Parisian bistros, there is a very good one right across rue Cardinale Lemoine (Ernest Hemingway's street) from there. Chez Rene. Excellent Coq au vin and Burgundy beef, and fish.

I did LeGrand Vefour about 10 years ago, when it was still a Michelin two star (it had lost its third). Went for lunch. My one big blow out extravagant meal. Wonderful experience from beginning to end. The cheese cart after the meal was something else.

I understand it’s gone more “bistro” almost casual style since Covid, though. Seems rather sad, if so.

I will say another thing about LeGrand Vefour. It is the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been to.

There are name plates on many of the tables showing that it was the favorite table of a French historical or literary figure. We made our reservations early and were given the best seat in the house which was Napoleon and Josephine’s table. We sat there for four hours and had a fantastic lunch with two bottles of champagne.
