I cruised on Celebrity Reflection in December and I love me some Celebrity but went on NCL Escape last month and was blown away. My wifes favorite cruiseline is Celebrity and she even said that the Escape was her favorite ship too. Norwegian has a great product and I like these breakaway class ships.

Love the speciality restaurants, Cagney's, Teppanyaki, the Italian one too. Can't wait to try the Bliss when she arrives next year. And you really can't go wrong when you can get free ultimate beverage package and free speaciality dining for 3 or 4 nights.

I'll be on my 14th Royal Caribbean cruise next weekend but need to get back on the Escape. Love the District with tons of beers to choose from.

I know you said may or June, but by far the best cruise out of New Orleans will be on Crystal the weeks of thanksgiving and Christmas.

Top 3 cruise line sailing out of NOLA. An opportunity locals should jump on.

Just bumping this one for more discussion about the Carnival Dream vs NCL Pearl out of New Orleans.

I'm looking at either Thanksgiving(2017) or Mardi Gras (2018) with a strong lean toward Thanksgiving.

Was reading today where the Pearl just got out of dry dock this week and all of the rooms were updated as well as some of the restaurants.

I see that the NCL is quite a bit more expensive, but I"m assuming with the free drink package and free specialty dining, it probably gets back closer to even.

How does the drink and specialty dining package work for NCL?

Royal carribean is my guess. Most all of their itineraries are the same. Cancun, cozumel, playa, etc

NCL has many more specialty dining restaurants that you have to pay for onboard if you want to eat at them. We recently had 4 nights of specialty dining so 4 nights we were able to go eat at the specialty restaurants and order whatever we wanted at no cost to us. The other few nights we just ate in the main dining room or somewhere casual that was free.

And the drink package is just that, essentially all you can drink just about anywhere on the ship with exception to liquors they deem top shelf.

I do think this definitely brings their cruise cost closer to carnival's. You have to pay separate for carnival's beverage package and it's not cheap.

Well I booked it for the week of Nov 19th with the beverage and specialty dining package.
Going to do the NCL private island in Belize.
Trying to stay away from the herds and overpriced cruise excursions at the other ports.
What kind of fun is recommended at Cozumel, Rotan, and Costa Maya?

I would hire a driver from Victor Bodden's outfit in Roatan. Did that a few months ago and had a good time. $25 a head all day. Driver takes you wherever you want and will stop for beers along the way. LINK We went to the Money Bar in Cozumel last time and snorkeled and then went into town to walk/shop and day drink. Can't go wrong with Paradise Beach either. Never been to Costa maya.

I can also vouch for Victor Bodden's tour. We had a driver and he took us all over the island. Got a great feel for the place. Roatan was amazing. You see how the real people live and then see the beautiful beaches near the tourist areas.

Head over to cruise critic and look in the port section. There are some excellent reviews of all 4 of the stops you will be making. I like to book excursions independent of the ship. It makes it

Costa Maya is a lesser used port and has a great beach. You just need to leave the port area and head down to Mahahual. It's only a couple of miles from the port and taxis are running back and forth all day. You will find rides back to the ship on almost every corner. It's a really nice beach you can find bars all up and do the melancon. It's a walkway that runs the length of the beach between the bars and the beach that makes it really easy to get around.

The beach is public, so you can go anywhere even without buying a pass to a individual beach club.

We just got back from harvest caye belize and the NCL owns everything there. You can't do anything independent of the cruise line which throws everyone together and isn't as interesting to me, but it's nice place. My son and I parasailed and it was great. They've got a beach, pool, mini water park, zip line.

Do you remember the prices for the activities on Harvest Caye?

Harvest Caye Excursions

The parasailing was 99/person. My son is 13 and we sailed together.

Harvest Caye has only been open for 3-4 months maybe. They are adding more activities, and there are talks of opening a ferry to the mainland (Placencia) that may open up somemore activities.

Consider getting yourself to Port Canaveral or Miami. Galveston at minimum. I have sailed the Dream and it was not my favorite ship by far. Stay far away from shorter Carnival cruises.
