So May is always busy at our house. Starting with my birthday early in the month, then Mother's Day, anniversary, my wife's birthday, and as of 3 years ago, our youngest's birthday. I'm turning 40 this year, so we had thought about taking an adult vacation for that and leaving the kids with family.

The timing is ok, being close to a weekend. We thought about going down to Point Clear and staying at the Grand Hotel. We get RSA discounts since my wife worked in a few school systems. They had several discounted nights in a row around my birthday, but that means the kids staying with family and missing a couple days of school. The more we thought about it, decided it would be better timing wise to make it an anniversary trip instead.

Wife starts looking at the RSA site and they do have the day after our anniversary available at the Grand, but not the days before and after. So we looked at the Battlehouse. Looks like we could spend a night there and then the next day drive over to Point Clear and stay a night there as well.

I haven't been to Mobile in forever, except for passing through. Seems like a nice hotel, rooftop pool, etc. What all is around the hotel, mainly within walking distance, that we could check out?

There are a lot of bars and restaurants that are downtown and within a few blocks of the hotel. Downtown Mobile is very walkable.

Battle House is great. If you stay, look at eating dinner at Dauphin's and grabbing drinks at Las Floriditas after dinner.

Thanks. I was thinking there had to be plenty of places nearby.

I’ve hung around downtown mobile quite a few times and haven’t had or seen any issues.

I stayed at the Battlehouse in October. Very conveniently located and like someone stated, it is very walkable to restaurants, bars, etc.

I mean, I’ve worked in downtown Bham for almost a decade. I’ve seen my share of crazy. Mobile doesn’t exactly scare me.

Let me know if you’re looking for specific types of restaurants or bars and I can probably give you some ideas.

Dauphin's is great, be sure to tip Mark at the piano/guitar. Have him do The Girl From Impanema in Portuguese, he'll know exactly who you got that from.

In addition to Dauphins and Las Floriditas, I’d recommend the Haberdasher, which a great speakeasy-style cocktail bar, around the corner from Battle House.

I’m not sure if it is still around but NoJa was really good and blue gill was nice with live music and drinks with decent food but can’t walk there

This time of year, just something laid back, maybe with outdoor or patio seating. We like live music, but not something like a full band rocking out to where you can't have a conversation. Acoustic/Piano bar type place like someone else mentioned.

And restaurants, definitely Seafood. I'll probably hit Felix's on my way from Mobile to Point Clear, if it is still around and any good. Last time I went there was when we were headed from Point Clear to Biloxi, and ate there with my 4 year old daughter at the time, who is now 13.
