Planning a buenos aires/mar del plata/patagonia trip this summer. Any tips?

This summer, meaning their winter, correct? What are you planning to do in Patagonia? Are you skiing?

Our summer is their winter, I'm not sure how exciting MDP is in winter. Their latitude is about the same as Cinci, which means not frigid but certainly not balmy.
I've never been skiing in Patagona but that might be on option. Otherwise BA is great in winter, same lattitude as ATL. Lots of good culture. Walk around San Telmo and Recoleta, maybe Boca. The subway is clean and easy. Have a dinner or two at Don Julio.

Argentinians are very distrusting of their own currency. Offering to pay in $USD will often get you way better than the stated exchange rate. I wish I had learned this earlier.
Buenos Aires is a beautiful city. Hire a private guide for a day long tour. Hit the Recoleta for sure.
Eat a Choripan. Drink some mate tea. Have some Dulce de Leche. My favorite restaurant experience in BA was Fogon Asado.

My paralegal is an attorney living in Argentina. He only wants to be paid in US dollars.
Did you make it to patagonia?

In Buenos Aires:
- Eat at Don Julio (make reservations) La Cabrera is another awesome steak restaurant
- Check out the Miravida Soho Hotel and Wine Bar in Palermo Soho. Great location and safe area. Really nice and helpful owners. Can walk to Don Julio from here.
- Spend a day in the San Telmo neighborhood: see the Basilica de San Francisco, Manzana de las Luces, San Ignacio church, El Zanjon de Granados tunnels, La Casa Minima and Pasaje de la Defensa. Lots of cool architecture, shops, bars and restaurants in this neighborhood. Grab some fried Carne Cortada a Cuchillo empanadas at El Gauchito for lunch. Then afternoon drinks at El Federal Bar.
If you're there on a Sunday, the San Telmo market is fun.
Also not sure if you've booked flights, but you'll want to fly from the states into EZE airport Buenos Aires (taxi into town) then take the downtown airport AEP (Jorge Newberry) out of Buenos Aires to Patagonia or other cities in Argentina. EZE is the main international airport and much larger but further away from the city center.
AEP is right in downtown so much easier to depart Buenos Aires
