I think your best bet if you aren’t using Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes is to start at Magic Kingdom.

You’d have to join the Tron virtual queue with a return time before lunch if you’re lucky. Leave Magic Kingdom for EPCOT on the monorail and tap in at 1:55pm, which is the earliest you can get in when park hopping. Grab a Guardians 1pm virtual queue boarding group with a quick return time, if you’re lucky.

Head to Animal Kingdom next and wait in standby for Flight of Passage. The wait here could easily be 90+ minutes.

Finish at Hollywood Studios in the Rose of the Resistance queue and hope the ride doesn’t break down for the day.

All this to ask what does your son want out of this trip? Is he a thrill seeker? Then pay for the express pass at Universal. Does he want to experience Disney? Then you need more than just one day to truly experience what WDW has to offer.

Thanks for the breakdown on how to plan the day if we go that route! He likes thrill rides but not the extreme roller coasters and he also likes the 3d rides. I know when I went to Disney when I was 9, 13, and 19, I enjoyed Disney but I enjoyed Universal more and I didn’t care for the Peter Pan, small world and kiddy rides.

My son is similar to me but I haven’t been to Disney since 2006 and each park’s biggest ride is something I have never been on and they look awesome and I know he will enjoy them. To me, I always looked at Universal/Adventure Island as all of Disney best rides combined into a combo park.

He wants to go to Universal and just started to want to experience Disney but I don’t have the money to go to every Disney park.

For our last trip a night at a Universal hotel that included express was $800 a night which wasn’t worth it so I bought express pass. We did early entry which doesn’t mean much since only a few rides are open and unless you are the first group there over an hour before early entry, you will still have an hour+ wait at any of the big rides. Since express can be used on any ride but 2 now, we were able to ride every one of those with time to spare in one day. Some I will never do again (Simpsons, transformers).

At Disney the rides aren’t just shake you around make you sick rides like Universal so we enjoy it more. Velocicoaster is awesome and Hulk/Mummy are solid but we go to Dollywood enough that roller coasters like those don’t impress as much anymore.

Doing 4 parks in a day is doable with genie plus:

Epcot - virtual queue is hit or miss because it sells out in seconds and even with it you’re looking at a 1-2 hour wait. Buy the LL and get a morning time which would be a 20-30 min wait. If that’s all you wanna do there the. You could technically try for a 2 pm time so your morning isn’t wasted and it could be your first park to hop to.

Magic Kingdom - if Tron is all you want then you are relying on the virtual queue to get you the perfect time, if you get one at all. Good luck.

Hollywood - not sure why you picked arise of Resistance but ok.

Animal Kingdom - I’d do this first since it’s easiest to rope drop and get on/off Flight of Passage because the rest of your options are virtual queues. You could even hope for a genie plus return window early. I’d also do Everest which is one of their best coasters and typically had low wait times early.

Thanks for the recommendations! I downloaded the Disney app and been playing around with it to get a better feel for the genie and lightning lane sections.

You'll spend most of your day in line. Just do a park a day and relax a bit after running to the main rides

I think its a fricking terrible idea and as said there's quite a bit you need to figure out to maximize it.

But frick it OP this is the crap your kid will never forget. DO IT and report back.

Also, if you can stay at the resort with free fast pass at Orlando as said for cheaper then $614 why not do that also?

ETA: I don't know shite about Tron. But IMO you should buy two of the fast passes to better your chances, or AT LEAST one.

1.) Rope drop the first ride
2.) Paid fast pass for 2nd at 2pm
3.) Fast pass 3rd ride
4.) Wait in line at 3rd?

This is definitely doable. The Tron thing I don't know about it going to throw a wrench in your plan though.

I don’t believe it would be possible primarily due to that 2PM limit to start park hopping and regardless it would be miserable.

My biggest gripe about Disney world and why I prefer Disneyland is that transit between the parks and even the resort hotels takes at least half an hour waiting on bus or ferry between the different stops

This is what I would do. Aim to rope drop flight of passage. At 7am, get on the app and grab a virtual queue for Tron and hope for a higher number to put you in mid-day. Depending on what you get, pay for lightning lanes on Guardians and Rise and select times in the evening/night. Bank on still spending 60-90 minutes in line for Tron with the virtual queue.

Animal Kingdom isn't the worst park to be stuck in until 1ish. Everest, Dinosaur, and the Safari are fun and can still be under an hour wait earlier in the day and depending on when you go. You can also grab a drink and some snacks at Nomad lounge when it opens (at 11am, I think).

We will be at Orlando from June 4-June 9. We will probably go to Universal on Monday the 5th and we were thinking if we do go to Disney it will be that Tuesday the 6th or Wednesday the 7th.

Well we don't know park hours just yet but I think it's safe to say that they won't be any less than why is currently being offered in May so I'll start with there but the start and end times may need to be adjusted once those hours are officially released. And lets also assume that they don't change any Lightning Lane tiers between not and then and everything that is currently e Lightning Lane option now will be then.

The key here is two fold....starting at Magic Kingdom (and have a park reservation there), then heading to Animal Kingdom and definitely buying two Individual Lightning Lanes.

Because you are not staying at a Disney resort your only chance for Tron will be to snag a spot in the virtual queue at 7am. Anyone with a Magic Kingdom park reservation can enter the virtual queue through the my disney experience app starting at 7am regardless of where you actually are at that moment and what time the park opens (more to come on best practices to snag those virtual queue spots).

Depending on your spot in the virtual queue, you may be able to get on Tron as early as 10 or 11 am or as late as 5 of 6 pm so fast fingers for the win here.

Now, you can't enter your next park until 2pm but you're next park will be Animal Kingdom. Flight of Passage will be one of the attractions you will buy an Individual Lightning Lane for and you will want to buy it and lock in something around 2-3pm, closer to 2pm the better.

You'll want to leave Magic Kingdom in plenty time to make sure you are off the bus and through security by 2pm not getting ON the bus or ordering an Uber at 2pm but actually at Animal Kingdom, bags already checked and waiting to tap in by 1:45 or so. Uber will definitely be faster from Magic Kingdom so if you go that route you will want to walk to The Contemporary from Magic Kingdom anc order the uber there. If not, you'll have to go all the way back to the transportation and ticket center to catch the uber there.

Okay, back to the schedule.

IF your fingers were fast enough to get you in the virtual queue for Tron before you had to leave Magic Kingdom no need to worry about having to hop back letter but just remember you may have to leave Animal Kingdom and go back to Magic Kingdom to do Tron and I think you have like 2.5 hours once your spot is called so you have plenty of time. Even if you miss your lightning lane start time for Flight of Passage it doesn't matter...you can get in line for it ANY time once your time window opens.

if you need to Uber back to Magic Kingdom, remember, order it to the contemporary and get dropped off there then walk over.

The other Individual Lightning lane you will buy will be Guardians of the Galaxy in Epcot and I would shoot for something in that 4-6 range. Epcot and Hollywood Studios will both be open till probably 9 or so that light (maybe later) so your plan will want to get in line for Rise of the Resistance as close to park close at Hollywood Studios close as possible.

They will let you in line up to the moment the park closes so if it is a 9pm close, your goal is to get in line at 8:58. To get from Hollywood Studios to Epcot you will want to walk, it's about 20 minutes and a little more than a mile.

So:
-Make your park reservation at Magic Kingdom
-At 7am (actually you'll start this process about 6:58am) get in the Tron virtual queue

-Immediately after getting your Tron VQ spot, buy your ILL for Flight of Passage as close to 2pm as possible (but it MUST be after 2pm) and then Guardians for something in the early evening 4-6ish (but keep in mind your Tron virtual queue time right.?.?).

Because you will have your virtual queue for Tron that will dictate when you buy your ILL (Individual Lightning Lanes) for Flight of Passage and Guardians.

Now, for the best results to nab a spot in the virtual queue you will want to have everyone in your family lined to one my disney experience that you "manage" all of their plans.

Give your wife your login info and you both login to your account on the app, disconnect from all wi-fi and get somewhere you have a clear cell reception.

if your kids are tech savy tell them to login too, the more the better

Go into the middle of parking lot of your hotel/resort as far away from trees and building as possible and at 6:58 you just start refreshing like a mad person. Have your wife wait until she sees the phone turn from 6:58 to 6:59 and then count to 30 then start refreshing like a mad person. Whoever gets in the queue first wins.

The problem with the Tron Individual Lightning Lanes is by the time they go on sale at 7am for resort guests, they will be gone in seconds. Unless he is staying on Disney property, the virtual queue is his only option to get on and those will be gone in seconds.

Now, I do know some people who have found a way around the resort guest issue when they didnt stay on property but it cost around $100. OP, you could always rent one night at the Ft Wilderness Campgrounds and book a tent site (that of course you would not actually stay in that night) and then you would be considered resort guests and would have access to the individual lightning lane for Tron at 7am

I know it sounds like a lot and from a planning perspective, it is but the success of your day obviously depends on your ability to get the Tron virtual queue. If it doesn’t happen where you get to do, Tron actually makes things very easy and you could have a relaxed morning through lunch in Magic Kingdom. The advantage to starting in Magic Kingdom is that is easily the park with the most things to do either using genie plus or just waiting in the regular standby line so it won’t be hard to kill time until you can hop over to Animal Kingdom.
