British Airways announced today that they are dropping the facemask requirement as of Wednesday March 16th.

LINK

UK leisure airline Jet2 had previously ended their mask mandate.

Hopefully we see this more and more across carriers.

Carriers that have lifted Mask Requirements:
Swiss (As of 4/1/22)
KLM (Will not enforce after 3/23 though government mask mandate still in effect)
British Airways (As of 3/16/22)
Virgin Atlantic (As of 3/16/22)
Jet2 UK

Other:
London's Heathrow Airport (As of 3/16/22)
All German Airports (As of 4/2/22)

quote:

‘For destinations where we have established that the wearing of a face covering is not mandated, you are able to make a personal choice’ – BA message to passengers

Great! We're booked on BA for a trip to eastern Europe this summer (now we have to wonder if there will still be an eastern Europe by then.)

Thank god someone has balls. Why haven't all the airlines done this by now? I'm hoping this starts the domino effect and the US based ones begin. Screw it, if they all came out tomorrow that April 19th masks aren't required this ends in a month...

American still isn't serving alcohol in Y. The AA FA union is gonna try and hold onto their power over passengers for as long as possible

Just to be clear:

This does not apply to flights to and from the US.

You still have to wear a mask.

I don’t think BA will be able to enforce it for US flights. Passengers just won’t do it.

Correct, since the US still has a Mask Requirement all flights to/from the US will have the mask mandate apply. However, I can't see the FA's going out of their way to enforce it

Fwiw I didn't wear a mask for 90% of the flight to and from Istanbul last summer. FAs didn't say shite.

Caveat is was business class and you get away with more traditionally.

People care less and less now. It's barely hanging by a thread. Government In-action!

I know you sit on it, but I still have the majority of my honeymoon trip intact and I have no plans of wearing a mask in business class. If my seat has a door, you can F off with the mask mandates

It’s being reported that British Airways has postponed dropping its face mask requirement. Apparently this is because the company is still ironing out some details in terms of exactly under which circumstances masks won’t be needed, based on laws in different countries. Despite that, the airline still has a Tweet up about the face mask requirement being lifted as of today.

Which BA aircraft are you flying?

I'm doing F on BA DFW-LHR April 10th but don't think they have installed doors yet even in F on the 777

My rich childless neighbor and his wife fly to Sri Lanka/India/Maldives regularly and he only flies QSuites.

But I think he's straight cash homey.

Flew to Maldives in November on Qatar Airways in the QSuites and we only wore a mask while boarding and exiting the plane. Not one person said a word. Houston to Doha, Doha to Male.

That's my routing as well. I needed 2 award seats and Qatar hasn't released them for DOH-MLE yet so I'm going DOH-CMB-MLE for now, but that is good to hear.
