Looking for a trip that basically includes peace, quiet, good food, and over water bungalows. Trying to keep total around $10k or less. Where should I start looking? Expedia and other trip sites legit for this type of trip?

You save a bit if you go to Moorea instead of Bora Bora. You fly in to Papeete and it’s a 10 minute hop. It’s pristine. Phenomenal.

Might save you a couple of thousand on 10 nights.

I can’t recall all the details of what I did 4 years ago but here is the overview.

There are 2 intercontinental resorts over there.... and they are part of IHG. If you are an ihg member they will occasionally let you buy points at a fairly decent rate. For 6 days the points cost about 1800. This did not get over water bungalow and you had to book almost year in advance. Then call the hotel and request to pay for upgrade which was 200 a night. So basically got the bungalow for 500 a night or 3k total. Normally would be double that. Airfare used delta points from Lax to ppt (air Tahiti uni one way and Air France back).

Worked for us but you need that booking runway.

I get anxiety on long flights. I just can’t fly 12 hours and spent 10+ thousand to go sit on a beach when you can do it for a fraction of the costs somewhere in the Caribbean

PDC is only a 2 hour flight direct from Houston. We flew into Cozumel and took the ferry right over into downtown PDC.

Easy.

French Polynesia is worth the flight.
And I think it was seven hours from LAX to Papaete.

If that's how you view it then it's not for you and I have no clue why chose to post in the thread. You added nothing.

I researched this for my upcoming Honeymoon and decided on Moorea and Taha'a instead of Bora Bora. Keeping under 10k might be tough though. Not a cheap trip as you're well aware.

It’s obvious this poster is a tourist as opposed to a traveler looking to immerse themselves into a cultural experience.

Check out the Maldives. They also have water bungelos. They have a One&Only Maldives which is very nice.

To be fair, do you really consider staying in one of those bungalows a "cultural" experience?

This.

But also, what's the appeal of a over the water bungalow? I've never been so I know I know...but to me I'd rather pay to have a really nice private beach front house. Im sure those are not very "busy" but there's a heck of a lot more bungalows in one small area than if you rented a really nice beach house for the same price range?

I guess I'm saying what's the point of being "over the water" that's worth so much more?

I think most have reefs so you can jump out of the bed and snorkel.

But I wouldn't call staying in one a cultural experience.

It's a compromise. My wife loves the beach. I loathe the beach. This way she could still have an ocean front view and I could avoid the sand.

No, not really. But when compared to a Carribean destination, yes I do.
