AA5342 Crash at DCA

Looks like Reagan airport is currently closed after AA5342 from Wichita KS crashed into a helicopter upon final descent into DCA. Here's the flightaware link
Horrible situation where I hope at least some survivors can be found. I'd expect DCA to be closed tomorrow (Thursday) while rescue efforts continue. I'll be on the lookout for waivers on the airlines, but this is just breaking so likely waivers to come later. Leave from BWI or IAD in the meantime if you need to go to/from DC

My parents fly out of there tomorrow morning. My wife and I fly out tomorrow night. Headed to NOLA

Not happening. The search efforts will go on throughout the night and continue during daylight hours. My guess is DOT and other govt regulations are on the scene all day. Are you on AA or southwest?
AA- Head to dulles and connect in dallas but watch for bad weather in DFW tomorrow...
Southwest- Head to BWI and catch a nonstop from there

Can you get to baltimore instead of DCA if needed tomorrow? There's only 2 nonstops on southwest but there's a bunch of connecting flight options if needed

Looks like all inbound flights to DC are being held until at least 5am tomorrow as of current. I'd expect that to get extended

My buddy said Friday per ABC news. I am going to kill him if it turns out to be tomorrow. We pushed everything 24 hours.

MWAA said at the press conference that DCA will reopen at 11:00a local time on 1/30. Though noted that is subject to change.

From the footage it didn't look like the Blackhawk had any lights on, but I'd suppose they were on but just washed out from the background light based on the angle.

I haven't flown into DCA in a over year, but this was always my worst fear.
Hated going into there and would go into BWI any chance I could.
