Ireland (ROI, not Northern Ireland) can eat 5-6 days. Short flights from NYC. You can do more in major cities from Northern Europe (Belgium, Netherlands, N. France, etc.) with less in between travel time. The Xmas markets in the EU are a great experience, but I can't remember if they start before November.

When your flight lands can waste entire days in/outbound. Too many people will book a $1,100 fare that lands in Europe in the afternoon (wasting a day), rather than the $1,300 flight that lands you hours before lunch.

Vast majority start last week or so of November or first week of December I believe.

As others have said, a very convenient flight should be his first criteria for where he goes.

Personally, I'd agree if he's going in October, but not if he's going in July or August. Places like Rome, Paris, Athens, and Barcelona are just too hot and too packed with tourists in the peak summer months. It can be miserable.

In those months, I'd advise getting away from the most popular destinations. For example, a few years ago, I had an amazing trip to the Azores in August. Summer is the best time to see Iceland, Scotland, Norway, and other countries in northern Europe.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that.

I was in Rome in late August/Early September and it was fricking insane. I was dying of heat, and Rome is already chaotic enough.

I found a $500 round trip price to Nice, France. You could probably do the French Riveria, Monaco, and the Italian Alps in that amount of time.

Given the time parameters and his call for "bang for buck", I honestly think he's best off staying in one city. South of France is great though

I think 5 days in Vienna - Budapest is ideal from my experience. Loved every minute there.
