Yeah that's been an outlier for sure. Most everyone we've heard from says four nights will not be enough.

Don’t miss Berchtesgaden.
The Reich Adler near the Berchtesgaden Cemetery-
It’s very close to Salzburg (one could easily drive between the two) but I liked staying in town eating & drinking there & then waking up there.

Cool picture. We plan to go to Berchtesgaden on a day trip from Salzburg.
We should arrive in Salzburg about lunch on Day 1. Plan to walk around Old Town, go to Mozarts Birthplace, see the Cathedral and then end the day at Hohensalzburg.
On Day 2 we have a Sound of Music tour scheduled in the morning for four hours. The second half of the day will be more exploring of Salzburg, ending the night at Augistiner Braustbul.
On Day 3 we plan to get up early and go to Lake Hintersee and then on to the Hotel yum Turken bunkers and the Berghof. From the Berghof we plan to go see the Eagles Nest and after the Eagles Nest onto Berchtesgaden that afternoon.
We are not necessarily sold on the Lake Hintersee and can be talked out of that portion of the day...

You’re doing it right...
Be sure to have your SOM tour driver stop at one of the sommerrodelbahns along the way, look it up

Haha we've seen the alpine coasters mentioned a few times. We had planned on stopping to do one on our trip from Hallstatt to Fussen!

Hey guys, I have updated our itinerary on the first page. Still looking for any further suggestions! Thanks!

Your itinerary is excellent so far...though that first day is a doozie coming off jet lag. If you don't get to do everything, can always do it the following day...don't rush Day 1 too much.
Salzburg:
Spend a few hours at Augustiner, no need to rush that experience
Lunch/Dinner recs:
WeiherWirt—our best dinner in town. Get the green garlic soup if it’s still in season
Imlauer Sky Bar—awesome spot for a pre-dinner cocktail
Bärenwirt—actually REALLY good fried chicken here, also serves Augustiner
Stiegelkeller—nice spot to hit on the way down from the fortress
Hallstatt:
--Dinner on the patio at Braugasthof am Halstattersee
-- Cafe Derbl for drinks on the square
--Restaurant am See has a great patio on the water
Fussen:
Tracing the End of the Romantic Road is worth it if you have extra time
Laura´s Schiffwirtschaft is great for beers inside or out
Murren:
The hikes here were one of my favorite parts of our trip...stop at the co-op for some salami/cheese & bread for a picnic with a few waters/beers. Cheap as hell there, unlike everywhere else in Schweiz.
Jungfraujoch may be trying too much, but the lift up to the Schilthorn is well worth the trip up if you can squeeze it in...there's also a new Piz Gloria viewing area I believe.
Gimmelwald was fun for a hike down, too...though it's pretty quaint. (I actually met Rick Steves' buddy Ollie on one of the lifts)
I'll stop here, sorry for the long post

Just left Colmar. Be careful pickpocket almost got my wallet. Strasbourg is worth a visit.

Schloss herrenchiemsee is right off the A8 Autobahn like 5 mins on your way between Munich and Salzburg, it’s the 3rd Ludwig castle and location of his death. It’s on an island you have to take a short ferry to it so it takes a couple of hours. But it’s a crystal clear lake and there’s a couple nice pubs on the water where you catch your ferry.

Hey Junction,
What route are you planning to take Hallstatt to Fussen?
I wouldn't pass up driving through the Alps. Even if you just drive to Worgl or Kufstein and get back on the A12, you will see some beautiful mountain scenery.

drock - yeah Day 1 might be rough, we left the afternoon of Day 2 wide open for that reason. I'll send me wife all of the restaurant recs.
Do you have an opinion on the cog rail to Schafberg and exploring St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang? My wife is pushing that instead of Berchtesgaden. She is convinced that if we go to Berchtesgaden that it'll be a full WWII day.
Will definitely check out the co-op. I budget to eat out every night while we are on vacation. It's just something my wife and I like to do, but we're going to be making an exception for Switzerland with the prices being as ridiculous as they are.
Schilthorn has me torn. The pictures look great if its a clear day, but it's an expensive trip and It'd make me sick if we spent ~$200 and were only on top for thirty minutes taking pictures.
You can't have to long of a post, keep the suggestions coming. Very little is set-in-stone from an activity point of view. I'll look into any suggestions.
Kjngtgr - duly noted on the pickpocket. I hate that's something that we have to worry about. We've done some research on Strasbourg, it looks beautiful.
Baldona - Have not heard of Schloss Herrenchiemsee, will check it out. Thanks!

Jugs, the plan is to just take the quickest route that Google Maps shows, but tonight I’ll check out driving through Worgl or Kufstein.
I really hate that we don’t have an opportunity to spend some time on the High Alpine road. It looks incredible.

You can take the route:
Hallstatt-Bischofshofen-Saalfelden-St. Johann-Worgl or Kufstein

I'll say something to my wife and see if it sticks. Looks like a gorgeous drive. It'd add an hour+ to our drive is the only negative.
Looks like Google Maps would take us north of the Alps if we go the quickest route.

Grossglockner? It is an incredible drive. There’s a bunch of incredible drives though. I would really try not to over plan driving the Alps. There’s a bunch of pull offs and small towns and what not you’ll want to stop at.
I also highly recommend stopping at any farmer’s stands you encounter selling things like fresh produce.

Don't force it, of course...especially if it's not a crystal clear day. Also, take into account time to reach it and get back.

Na we won't. If the day we are scheduled to drive from Interlaken to Colmar is clear we might make the trip then.

Updated the itinerary through Bayeux.
Posted on 5/27/19 at 12:38 pm to TheJunction
RE: second night in Bayeux, it makes absolutely no sense to drive from Bayeux all the way to Etretat (1.5-2 hrs back in the general direction of Paris), then drive back to Bayeux to spend the night. STOP rushing.
Stay in Bayeux area that day. You should see the tapestry (not listed on your itinerary anywhere), and go to the cathedral. Or the town military museum. Have a nice, long lunch with cider & some Norman specialities....or at least a leisurely lunch at a creperie & have Breton galettes (buckwheat crepes).
By this point in your trip, you will likely WANT some down time to relax, wander, recover....shop for souvenirs, or visit those two D-Day sites missing from your tour. Or go to the bakery & get a loaf of bread, then the cheese store for some Livarot or Camembert (both made not too far away), and take your picnic to the beach at Arromanches. Or visit one of the chateaux near to Bayeu open in the summer to tourists.
In short, relax. Take the time to digest what you’ve seen. Seek attractions closer to where you’re already planning to spend the night.
